I am thinking about picking up the TC Electronic M300 , but I have a question about the inputs on it and the outs on my preamp....

my preamp has balanced and unbalanced outs, I'm using a condenser(48V phantom power) thru the pre...the M300 has unbalanced 1/4 inputs.

My question is can I use the unbalanced out on the preamp into the M300, or will I damage the mic, the pre, or the m300?

and another question related to the first... since the mic is on a balanced line in, can the output only be sent thru the balanced output?

Any help, or suggestions would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Even though the mic is a balanced input, you can use the unbalanced outputs of the mixer to and from any compatible gear you choose without problem.

thanks for your help, Timothy! I feel better about getting the M300.

You'll find that the majority of outboard effects units will have unbalanced TS connectors, simply because the majority of insert points on mixers/pres are TRS, which then gets split into an in/out signal (Tip=send, ring=return sleeve= common ground).

You're not going to damage anything.

Have fun

The TC M300 is fully balanced. Most FX units are. Unbalanced units are usually old or non-pro, and FX are not usually run through insert points in any case.

Cheers.
