Quality of the iTunes mp3 encoder, any comments?

hey guys, The other day I notices that iTunes for mac has a free mp3 encoder. It's pretty slow, but it seems to work fine.

Anybody knows about it's quality, compared to others?

Free mp3 encoders are readily available. I use LAME, which I greatly prefer to any other encoder I've used. There are a couple LAME versions for Mac here and here. Both of those are free, I believe.

looks like they are cool apps, and they are scriptable.
