Hey, i'm pretty much new at all this recording, and just purchased a Lexicon Omega. I have a crappy old mic, but I was wondering if anyone could point me in the direction of some good quality mics for acoustic guitar and vocals. I'm looking to buy one for the guitar and one for the vocals... Anyways, if anyone could kinda help point me in a direction it would be awsome. I would rather not spend more than $500 total, but if completely neccessary I can, though I am pretty sure I don't need to. Thanks.

You're in the right place, if you use the search function you will find lots of threads on the subject of budget mics for vocals and for acoustic guitar.

If it's just for recording yourself it's worthwhile checking out a lot of different mics, particularly for your vocals. You could spend a lot of money on a vocal mic and still end up with something which doesn't suit your voice too well.

The vocal mic really depends on your voice. On the acoustic guitar I love the MXL603, sweet mic for the price.

my .0000000$.........

For guitar:
Oktava MC012 pair off of Ebay ~ $250

For vocals, investigate these mics:
MXL v69me ~ $300
Audio Technica 4040 - $300
Audio Technica 4033 - $300
Studio Projects TB1 - $300

I love my Rode K2 for vocals... However, may or may not work on your vocal... You need to try out different mics...

His price range is $500, and he wants two mics.

for about $500...

...a Rode NTK for vocals (assuming your not a soprano!!?) $350-400. on ebay new!...and another vote for the MXL 603 for the gee-tar, under $100. new on ebay...I use this combo pretty often...real nice clean sound...

Are you a bass, baritone or tenor? Who do you sound like (Barry White or Barry Manilow)? it might help someone get you in the ballpark.

I would recommend a pair of small diaphragm condensers for the acoustic and a large diaphragm condenser or dynamic for vocals.

SDCs:
MXL 603s ($200/pair) - I have these. You can check my sig for what they sound like recorded through a DMP3 preamp.
Studio Projects C4 ($320/pair) - I read nothing but great things about these mics
Oktava MC012 (~$250/pair) - Again, I read great things

LDCs: very subjective here and largely dependent on your voice
Studio Projects C1, C3, B3 ($200-$300)
MXL V67G ($100), V69 ($300)
Rode NT1 ($200) - alot of people dis this mic, but I have one of the older (made in Australia) ones and usually love it on my voice
M-Audio Solaris ($300)

LDDs:
Shure SM7 or Electrovoice RE20 - you could probably pick up a used one for $250-$300 and they tend to be very versatile.

For high quality at a decent price, my first look would be MBHO - quality similar to Schoeps IMHO at a very much lower price.
