"I have the global setting set to out 01 and to PC"
I don't want to insult your intelligence, but double-check a few things:
1. Check the back of the QS8 and make sure that the communication setting has been changed to "MIDI" rather than "MAC" or "PC1/PC2". It sounds like you have it set to "PC"
2. Make sure that the "MIDI IN" of the MIDI cable goes to the "MIDI OUT" of the keyboard (and the "MIDI OUT" of the MIDI cable goes to the "MIDI IN" of the keyboard)
3. Make sure that when you play the QS8 in Cubase that you have selected the same MIDI channel that the keyboard is playing. That is: if you are using a 16 channel setup, make sure that all 16 channels of the combination are "on". Go through each of the 16 channels and enable them.
If you are using just one instrument then make sure that the QS is set to send MIDI info on the channel that you are recording to. Change the MIDI channel with the "bank" buttons and watch the QS' screen to see which channel it's on.
As far as setting Cubase up, I'm not sure. I use Emagic Logic Audio. Most digital audio sequencers come already "setup", so my guess is that the problem is in your keyboard setup.
