Sorry For This Stupid Question But Do U Have To Pay To make A Website

Not if you do it yourself... If your host has some sort of "builder" (many do) or you have some decent web authoring skills, it can be done very inexpensively.

I'll quote from one of the greatest movies ever made -

"Speed is just a question of money - How fast do you want to go?"

Yeah, you can go with a builder they're pretty easy to use. If you have basic html understanding get an html editor (I personally use Dreamweaver but there are many to choose from) and create your own, or you can always grab a template online. The only thing you'd be paying for is the HTML editor, unless they have some free ones out there and hosting. If you really know your stuff you can create a website with notepad or word.

hosting is a service provided by companies, either free, or by paying an amount to basically let you put your website on the internet for the world to see. Your website needs to be placed on the internet, and that service provides you with it. You can either do it free, by setting up your own server to 'host' your website.

though its best to note, if your going to have a site hosted for free, your more than likely going to have adds floating around your site. Thats how they make their money, the host providers just incase you were wondering. Also your space QUOTA would be very minimal, at best 20megs and barely any bandwidth. So yes, if theres a site offering free hosting without banners, be very warey of what the requirements are, alot of the time you have to contain certain content on your website which best fits them.

Actually "making" a site, ie the layout, body content, headings, banners, etc... Can be very time consuming if you want to get the best possible-professional look. Doing it the good old HTML way is...well OK, if you love notepad, but your better off saving yourself the stress by getting a half decent commercial product with a user-friendly layout so you can edit with a WYSIWYG concept which still uses the source code as HTML and can edit either way.
Knowing HTML though does help, thus when you edit your site for quick changes and content alterations, you know what your actually doing.

overall, google is your friend, theres billions of information on how to make a site easily and cost effectively. And nothing is for free...

Well, godady gave me free hosting for buying a domain, ads, but 5gb space and 250gb transfer.

I didn't say you will get nothing if you pay for it... my post was in response to a free hosting of a website. Also, you still do get ads, regardless if you don't mind them or not. I'm talking from a free-based hosting perspective.

hand_in_glove: Right gotcha, But i'm about to upgrade and I actualy do recomend it, only around $40 something per YEAR for mysql/php and the 5gb space/250gb transfer.

OhSh1rt; that does sound pretty good... Especially with the mysql/PHP. I don't do sites anymore kinda just don't see the point unless i'd have a business or a band to promote, WHICH i do not as of now.

Overall, back to the point at hand, your best bet would be to search into some hosts with little or no expense of your pocket at the start and grasp some experience in actually MAKING and MANAGING a site before paying. Otherwise, alot of internet service providers usually offer a dedicated website space you can use. They aren't the greatest and sometimes space is sacrficed, but since your paying for your internet anyway, you don't usually have ads and whatnot, just get a subname for your site if the names too long..
Its great for starting out.

Yeah, html can be annoying to a vet., however, it's a great learning experience and can be cool to see text and code turn into color, pictures, tables, text.etc. If you search for html codes or cheat sheets, you can find pre-entered code for anything, all you do is copy and paste into notepad. You also Im sure, find a brief exlpanation somewhere online. With a basic understanding, and a cheat sheet, you can get some cool stuff and figure it out from there. Otherwise, as mentioned earlier, If you want something fancy and all about you (no sponsors or ads) then you're better off using a software-based program.
