My drummer has one of the radio shack models,about,10" by 12" boundry plate electret condenser w/onboard battery about ten years old.We have used it on high wall placement and on ceilings for band practice taping and I have been amazed how it cancels normal room resonances and reflections. Also used it for drum overhead.
I'm looking for a relatively inexpensive way to get good room tone without the usual hassle of multiple eq passes to correct for the hash.
According to the crown literature, stereo room placement is recommended for 20 feet seperation minimum. The psycho-acoustic effect must be tremendously wide!In effect, our ears are pressure boundry receptors focused about 8" or so apart (I'm sure you are aware of binaural recording in the 60s and how cool that sounds, the aural equivalent of a GAF Viewmaster)so that advise is counter-intuitive.
I'm just a home hobbiest. What are the pro applications for this system?I'm talking about pro audio, not the business class conference market most of the mikes are aimed at.
regards
Tom
