Hey, I just got a new Seymour Duncan humbucker pickup that I'm going to be putting into the bridge of my dual-humbucker axe.... never done this before, but I think I can do it.... I know someone who has a saudering iron, but does anyone have any tips for me? Or better yet, a website dealing with guitar work stuff where can I see general workings/diagrams/etc of how to work on guitars, circuitry, etc.

I play guitar. I don't usually work on them, but damnit, I wanna learn!!!

The wiring should be simple enough however, if you've never solderd before practice on some spare wires untill you get the hang of it.

Hope that's not too many. One thing to keep in mind is to not overheat the POTS or other items as you solder to them. Be sure not to burn anything up. Good luck,

A couple of things to help your soldering.
keep your fingers off the part to be soldered. You have natural oils and acids and god knows what else besides in your pores and you don't need it in the soldered part.
Got to a plumbing hardware store or welders supply and get some plumbers soldering flux.
This is a dark "grease", it looks just like axle grease, use this as well as resin cored solder. I use a matchstick to apply a small bit of flux to BOTH parts to be soldered.
Make sure the iron is hot, put a small blob on the iron and make contact with the parts, you will find it flows really well.

However be aware that the fumes coming off are bloody awful if you are an asthmatic, and some could be carcinogenic, but only a small amount comes off each time so just use your head and avoid breathing it in.
Like the man says practise on a few bits first.

SUCCESS!!!!

It works, love the new pickup. Me and my bud with the soldering iron were able to get it together with the help of Bighand's link.... though I must apologize that I hadn't checked these forums since Bighand's reply, but I'll still take your "after the fact advise" from now on... I'll check out all those links Fangar so that you didn't have to post them in vain. I can never know too much. :D

Thx everyone

...now if you could just let me know if you put in a single style like the 'Hot Rails', or the piggy back style like the 'Pearly Gates'...I'm just curious because I was going to have the 'Hot Rails' put into my new Strat, and am wondering if it's worth the trouble and cost, or if maybe I should get the piggy back instead, or leave it alone, or...?
