I have a kramer with floyd, and it has two EMG active pickups, I would like to buy a powerful single coil to put in one of the spaces.

Which space would it be best in? the toggle is a 3 way, and my favorite position is the middle position would this screw that up?

Hey, that's the Kramer you got from me! Hope it's treating you well. I don't know if I'd put a single in either of those spots. It can be a pain trying to match passive pickups with the active EMG's too. Have you considered an EMG 89? You can wire that to split the coil with a push/pull pot, that way you could have a single coil sound when you wanted it, or a humbucker sound, and it would still be an active pickup like the other. I'd personally recommend putting it in the neck.

Ah, yeah. Basically, you can't (at least, not without an internal buffer on the passive pickup.)

Yes, it would screw up your middle position.

And another vote for the EMG 89, if you like EMGs (I don't, but that's just my thing).

Another vote for splitable humbucker

just because of the ease of installation, if nothing else. As far as which position, that dependes on what kind of single coil sound you're going for. Another option (though I don't know about how well it would match up with the EMG) would be to put one of the humbucker-sized P-90s (P-94?) in.

You've got options, you just have to decide what you want.

If it were me, I'd say buy another guitar with singles. :D

It wouldn't. Active doesn't mix with passive.

I hadn't thought about that. Never had active p/u anything.

Nevermind.

How did you like the fender? Sounds good? Yea/Nay?

I think it was a good swap. I like the floyd and all, it's just a little stiff, hard to press down.
