I have a Samplitude program for recording, which I like very much and want to build a computer for it, to use in my small project studio. I use a Roland Hard disk recorder at the present.
Start with the tower and tell me what all I need to get. EACH PIECE! I am green about pc's. I presently have a 950 Athlon processor using Windows ME in my home.

Well, first of all, how many tracks will you need to be recording simultaneously? And how many for playback?

Thanks for asking. I have only used a simple setup so far. 8 or 16 track hard disk recorder with master outs hooked into DAT machine.
So, I guess 8 in would be great and 2 out. I am sure more than 8 wouldn't be cost effective. Or would it?

What's wrong with the computer you've got? Your requirements aren't all that demanding.

grap a athlonXP 1800 or higher $87+
a nice motherboard with out via $60+
ddr ram
and a large power supply 400-430watt

is your current computer ATX style...

It is in my home. I need an additional pc for recording in my studio, dislocated from my home. I bought the one I have from G*****y a couple years back. It works good for the home, but I thought I would be better of with a bigger processor, better sound card, and more HD space. I have 20G.
Maybe I should use the one I have for recording and buy another one for the home.
Not familiar with ATX.

hey, I see you made it over here without any trouble. cool! :)
