Trailing Behind Again
I can't play....
I am in school until Monday, and I can't get any gear...
So if someone else wants the bass, go for it...

Hey man....can I get the midi for this, so I can make some sections longer? I was playing to it, but am not fast enough to make changes very quickly. I need some longer spaces.metalhead28 said:Okay, here's about 50 seconds or so of drums that I did last night.
It's not tweaked yet, but you get the idea. It's also a fast bounce from DFHS so it's not too realistic sounding, but I figure you guys could do some jamming to it.

Cool man. Which drumset did you use? Or was it a custom one?metalhead28 said:Sure, I'll bring in the MIDI and the DFHS file for you tomorrow.
I have to post all of this stuff from work, that's why I never do anything from the house....horrible connection.

Yeah, that would be great. I played some riffs today, but my changes were rough, and sounded like pick slides. I need to make the patterns longer, to just noodle with. I could chop it up and loop it, but that would be too easy....metalhead28 said:It's a custom kit. I'll give you the DFHS preset too if you want it.
Not to take over from Metaldude, but the most interesting thing to me is, the mixing. You can pick a bunch of mics, then try and blend them for getting certain sounds. They have many options, but I noticed that they have OH, and Ambiencs, plus a bunch of close micing options, with or without bleed. If knew how a real drummer played, I could get some killer stuff out of this program. (My trouble is programming what a drummer would really play. )ericlingus said:hey metalhead. Your drums always sound really realistic. I was wondering what DKFHS offers to humanize the drums besides the usual velocity, timing, differnt sample hit.
If you don't have the money, don't worry. While the program is cool, if you can make due with what you have, concentratge on the rest of the music. Most people can understand not having a real drummer, and just having decent drum loops, or a drum machine can work well.ericlingus said:thanks. Right now i'm using Beatcraft. It's a software drum machine. I have some good samples i've downloaded which make a huge difference. There isn't any mic bleed options or anything but I can change the velocities, I have multiple hit of a sample that I can use so every hit doesnt sound the same. I can vary the timing as well. I asked about DKFHS because I wanted to know what else there is to humanize drums. Besides the mic placement tweaks, I can do all that with my program, which i'm glad cause I don't have the money to buy DKFHS. I've been really getting into drum programming lately so that's why i'm asking these questions.
I don't think that sounds bad at all. In a mix, it would probably gel pretty good.ericlingus said:not to highjack this thread but could you take a listen to this drum sequence I made for a song i'm working on. This is without really any post processing.

how does it sound? Is it convincing? Does it sound good? How are the samples? I have other samples that probably sound more real because they are actually sampled from a real drumkit but I really liked the ones used here.

Cool, thanks man. I will hopefully make a bit longer drum sample today, and maybe get a few riffs recorded...metalhead28 said:Dogman, here is the MIDI file, the DFH preset file, and also the SONAR drum map (since I know you use Sonar) that I use with this kit.
Have fun.![]()

ericlingus said:thanks for the replies. Your right about the samples. They matter a lot. I'm just trying to get my drums to sound as good as possible. I don't want to hear, yeah that was a good recorded song, i'd like to hear it with real drums though. I'd like people to think they are real drums. Many metal bands are using lots of triggers nowadays and I like the drum sounds so using a drum machine isn't very far off. Metalhead, what metal bands do you know of that use programmed drums. Did Samael use them for Ceremony of Opposites or just from Passages on?
