Thanks for your comment! Anyone Else who Thinks the same? Is it only the kick or the overall mix?

The kick sounds ok. It's a matter of taste. Ofcourse it's nice with deep bottom and a punchy kick, but many pop songs of today sounds just the way you've chosen to mix your song. Well done! :)

Hi Kelman100!

I had a listen to your mix and it's one of the best mixes out here. I most definately think that you can be one of three happy winners. All the best! /D

Thanks man i really like your mix too. love the energy and nice use of the delays:thumbs up:

I submitted my song May 30th, as I had just discovered there was a contest this year, so it was mixed in about a day and I went with my gut, and did not listen to the original mix until after my rough mix. I just pulled up all the tracks and started mixing away. For this song, I took a very different approach, but still feel it was in line with the producer's intention. However, I made the beginning and end a bit more intimate, by leaving only the piano and vocals. I also felt this gave the middle section more effect and more punch; I wanted to give it a little ebb and flow. I also added more delay and verb to the vocals, not just for space, but also to carry a little more emotion than the original; I also utilized quite a bit of reverse reverb and slightly blended it against the original tracks. I tried to walk the line between a ballad and a dance number. I added nothing to the song, aside from a little rain, thunder, and traffic noise in the beginning and in the breakdown.

For mixing, I used Waves' SSL E-Channel for my EQs, a few comps, and nearly all the gates. I also have some hardware like a Manley SLAM and Purple Audio MC77 I hit some tracks with. I used McDSP Revolver for my reverbs, and a tape machine for my delays. The piano track, which is prominent in my mix, was EQed with a SSL E-Channel and then fed into a Sonnox Oxford Inflator, which made it large and warm, just like I envisioned it should be. The master buss also had a Sonnox Oxford Inflator (more for the high end crispness and attack) and Sonnox Oxford Limiter (for the warmth and punch), which is standard for my master buss. I also used the Sonnox Trans Mod for a couple of tracks, just to bring out some more attack. I went fairly mild on the master compression, wanted punch, but didn't want to squash it.

Hello fellows :)
This is my work:

I mixed it in PT 11 and Reaper (Rewire) ITB 96k...

I think it's a great mix :thumbs up:
Stereo is well balanced, low end is punchy, drums and voice are at the right place.
I listened to a lot of mix over here and a lot have the battery very forward.
Yours not and I like it...
Bravo

Tack så jättemycket för din kommentar! Precis som du är inne på så tycker jag inte att min kick saknar botten jämfört med dagens popmixar, vilket va mitt mål också och det jag mixade för :-)

Thank you so much for your comment. As you say I don´t feel the kick lack low end if compared o modern popmusic which was my goal and what I mix for. Low end takes a lot of energy and I often hear mixes with very much distortion cause they have to much low end information. A popmix must be able to handle radio IMO. I wanted to take this song to be more radio friendly :-)

Edit: Listened to your mix to and I liked it. Good job!!

Nice mix!) But for my taste - i think it is too linear and a little bit more of volume automation between parts of song could help! And there is some resonance frequency on Kick around 300-500Hz) I think its too hearable in first verse) But it is only my opinion!)

Thanks Whitemore for your comment :)
Yes! too linear I'm agree. About the Kick frequency issue, I didn't ear it on my Prodipe 5 (old & dirty) monitors!

IMHO, your mix is top notch. However, I think it lack a little bit of rverb in the verse and too much in the chorus. Anyway, no doubt it's an artistic choice :listeningmusic:
In overall, your mix have a lot of punch. I like it very much for that :thumbs up:
Very good job!

I'm really curious to see what people think of mine. I took it in a different direction, but think I held true to the vision. I mixed this in one session, about two hours, because I didn't realize there was a contest, so my submission was quick, as I would be out of town the last two days of the contest. I know I'd have done a few things differently, in hindsight, but I'm happy with it, and I think it stands a chance, though I downplayed the "dance" mix a bit, hopefully, not too much for the judges. I just mixed it how it spoke to me. What I would have fixed in hindsight would be spending more time with my M/S techniques, I just simply did not have time.

Here's the link, can't seem to get it to embed like the others. Thanks!

Hi Randall! Your mix is very creative and well done. If there's anything to comment it might be that the drums feels a little bit weak compared to the vocals. But your mix is one of the best sounding and the most creative one for sure. :)
