SLuiCe - I have been really trying to think of a way to get the computer more involved with my music.. I am very bad with computers, but I think it's probably the only way I'll get results like your latest tunes... I also mixed the vocals the same day I sang them which I know is not good.. thanks for the ears man..

boydrj - that's cool that you heard those influences :) I think it's subconcious, but I hear it a bit too... I think the changes come from my many mood swings..:D appreciate the comments dude.. I am going to check out your tune right now... I have been having mad problems with my computer...

Thanks for the info on the drum pads sam.I didnt know what you meant by pads.I've actually played on a set of Rolands and recorded one song with them.A guy that plays drums for me ever so often has a set of Rolands with the TD-8 brain and he let me use them for awhile. The kick pad went out on it though. You'd have to kick the shit out of the pedal just to get it to respond.Of course I got blamed for tearing it up:D I never could find a "great" snare on the TD-8 though.I dont have room for a set of acoustic drums so I might look into something like the rolands because this Alesis SR-16 aint cuttin it.

I have an SR-16 also..:) I actually like it.. I have a tune up there called 'cruise' that was made using presets from the SR-16.. I like some of the preset beats it has.. On a song called 'the hole situation,' I took the midi out of the Sr-16 and connected it to my Alesis QS6.1 and got some hairy sounds.. All without any editing.. :D thanks again man

Killer tune Sami. That just rocks.I'm gonna listen again. LOUD.

Wow, man that's really good! You know, when I first heard it, I thought, oh geez, this isn't my thing, but I've listened a few times, and I'm really digging it. I think I'm gonna go metal! The mix sounds great to me. My only beef is probably the snare, could probably be more powerful, but I don't like samples, so...a lot of clarity in the drums, though.

Great track!

Hey Sami,
Ive been trying to post on this for the last 2 days, but do to the @#$@ed up treatment that dragon's getting from his server, ....my MHO has been slow in coming. .....on with the show: You, my brother, are one twisted fuck!....... and I love ya for it. This should be the B-side to "hole situation"..... I dig that one too. You have a very interesting way of sliding hooks into very linear metal progs. I love the screaming in this. No one ever gives enough respect to the classic rock and roll scream (ala Daltrey, etc.). You have a great screaming voice, and when its necessary, you can definitely put up and throw down. Mix-wise, It sounded great. I would agree with Macle though, that snare might need a little more "crack" in it. .....something with a little more "snare" coming through.
Great job man, looking forward to the next one!!!!
Mike:D :D :D

Track Rat - thanks man!

macle - I sang through a Digitech Vocals 300 into a Blue Max compressor and then into a BBE Sonic Maximizer.. I normally dont scream like this but I had a lot to scream about last week..:D thanks for checkin it out... my tunes are usually a bit mellower. I played drum pads and I set up a new kit that hopefully sounds better.. thanks macle..

Guernica - hey man I thought you gave up on me from all the garbage I've been posting lately:D appreciate the comments dude.. I may be posting a new tune tonight or tomorrow that started as kinda like a part 2 to 'the hole situation.' It changed into something else though.. you may hate it!:D I used some new drum sounds and experimented a bit with some keyboards.. it is relatively mellow though.. but it is not a happy type of mellow..:) thanks again man, I always appreciate your coments whether you like it or hate it..

Dude I just listened to Cats and Wolves again. Man that is a sick guitar sound...what are your guitar and amp? I'm putting together a CD of your stuff , including Safety Dance. And as far as "the hole situation"....your a sick man mr. sam. :-)

Sammy!!!

Niiicceee..

Clean mix throughout, nice arrangement.

I couldn't dance to it though, so I give it a 3.

Nah...Great job.

And you have the most killer guitar tone of anyone who has ever posted here IMO..

Would love for you to lay some guitar down for me in the future.

I downloaded that tune awhile back and thats a killer tune!I thought I recognized those drum patterns.I guess I need to delve into the SR-16 a little deeper and utilize all of it's capabilities.I just hate manuals and programming:DIm more of a plug and play kinda guy!;)

SLuiCe - hey bro, I usually change it up a bit, but for this tune it was a Sansamp GT2 for distortion, into the Pod Pro for cabinet emulation, into a Blue Max compressor, and then into a BBE sonic Maximizer.. The guitar was tuned to Bflat.. It was a mexican strat that I had 'hot rail' pickups installed in.. As a matter of fact, I wound up putting hot rails into all my guitars.. The 5 string bass guitar is tuned down also.. the verses are just one guitar but the heavy parts are doubled and panned wide...not all the way though. I got a new tune that I'll be posting within the next few days and the guitar sound is a bit meatier.. I have been experimenting because I have absolutely nothing else going on in my life besides work..:D Oh yeah, and about 'the hole situation,' I was just having some fun.. kinda like a movie........a horror movie.:D

VI - thanks man!:D As you can hear, I am not a 'real' guitarist by any means.. Without effects and distortion I am nothing.. Drums is where I started.. I pretty much just keep re-hashing the same types of riffs and trying to add new flavors.. I would lay down something for you, but understand that I really am not very good and I rely on just getting my 'wiff' across..:D I cant read or write music at all...drop me a p.m. if you want me to try and do some stuff. thanks again for the words man..

Kramer - If you think your just a plug and play type of guy, check this out.. The only setting I changed when I used the SR-16 was the tempo..really! :D I never even figured out how to link two drum beats together on that machine.. When I wanted a different drumbeat, I just stopped the recorder, changed it, and punched it in.. Now that's a plug and play type of guy!! Whenever I used it, the drum beats were exactly how they came out of the box.. I didnt even know how to change the snare drum sound..:D

thanks again guys

hey Sam,
I don't know if I ever reviewed your stuff yet. But with so many rave reviews I hadto check it out :)

You have a good year for a mix and arrangement so give your saelf some credit there. Everything seems to sit pretty well. I'm on bad phones right now so the bass does sound a little muddy at times but not too bad IMHO.

I wonder how the song would sound if you only use the telephone voice on words 'cryogenic mug' but sing other places with normal voice.

You need to find other people to record, I think there are musicians out there who can benfit from your talant and hopefully you will benefit also.

Some places just "asking" for tap leads like 30 sec before 2:00 change where the screams come in.

Judging by your tunes if you quit your job you might loose some of your inspiration and anger :D

Good stuff

cheers

Let me pull you from the well...

HELLLOOOOOOO Down there,sir!!!!!!!!!
get out of the fucking well already.pull yourself up in the bucket and start realizing your voice does not suck!!IMOP,most of your work would be 10+ if not for the "sheepish" vocals, stop hiding in the effect,I think the effect should finalize the sound not totally create it in most cases,be a little more discrete about where you use the "telephone" sound. You give me big boards and guitar, now give me big vox, too.
ps-R U interested in any artwork for any project?I do multi media work, pen n ink, illistr, relief sculp, anything you can dream up...let me know. And ,yes,I am trying to ride your coattails down the road of infamy and success, all aboard!!

Fed - thanks for checking it out.. I'm sure you were no doubt dissappointed.. I am putting up a new tune tonight or tomorrow that is pretty mellow and I didnt sarurate the vocals with effects.. I agree about the effect abuse.. I am very insecure sometimes when it comes to vocals but I am starting to care less.. hopefully it will be for the better. thanks

W.I.S.C. - help! I'm trapped in the well!! :D Your right.. see Fed's reply.. Yeah I am working on a double C.D. I kinda figured I would make it a double because I may die before I have a chance to do it again.. Let me know where I can see some of your artwork.. I'm also considering making my own website and I thought it would be cool to have some video of me laying some tracks.. Artwork on there also as well as all the tunes... For better or for worse I have a lot of them and I only post half ..:D thanks

Hey SamSab.

Very cool song. I loved the effect on the non-screaming vocals. The screaming part was good too BTW. It's not quite my style of preference but it ranks high on the cool-o-meter.

Lyrically (what I could understand :D) there was some good stuff there too. I liked the change up at 2:00. Good bass work during that section. "If at first I don't succeed I find something I do with ease." Classic.
