hey guys,

I dont know what happened to the thread I started so here it is again...

If your into this type of tune I would appreciate any mix suggestions.. There is screaming and very loud guitar. The double bass part is a drum machine, and the rest is played on pads.

thanks if you bother..

'cryogenic mug' :)

Pretty entertaining actually. I like this and some very cool changes too.

And yes there is screaming....

Man o man...my throat would be toast if I did that.

ric...

man, another winner!!

my ears are still to virgin to comment on the mix, but something did hit me this time. i think this tune deserves a more in your face vocal, (not performance wise, but volume wise or something)
not the screams though, they rock!! just all the other vocals.

and im diggin that funky ending.

like i said, another winner. adding it to my playlist with all your other stuff.

btw. unwell(acid rain) is still my fav.

Not a bad mix, and the song is pretty cool. Just a few comments on the mix. The bass guitar is a bit muddy sound...it's got a nice growl to it, but it needs some presence. The distortion on the vocal is sometimes too cripsy (second verse?)...might want shave some of the high end (like around 8Khz or so) off. Love the guitar sound and drums in general, but the cymbals are a little too isolated sounding...as they shift from left to right it's distracting...Might want to add some ambience and pull them a little towards the center.

Otherwise a very good job! :)

Ric - thanks, my throat is a bit sore.

fenderlikingood - appreciate that.. I may have to remix it. If you ever want a CD, drop me a p.m. and I'll send you one. I only post half the songs I record.

LooneyTunez - thanks for the precise frequency advice.. I am going to remix it using these suggestions. I was afraid of that part being too crispy. thanks

appreciate the response dudes

Hey man,,,,,,great song again. You have a definate style yet your songs are all distinct from each other. You have awesome writing chops and you're certainly prolific. how the hell do you find the time?
I always like your sound so nothing much to say about that except YOUR VOCAL IS TOO FAR BACK IN THE MIX! Oh wait, have I said that before? :D

hey Lt. Bob - If you like the sound of the drums, I can use this set on the collaboration. I'll email you shortly. thanks for the comments..

I thought this was a vocal up mix  :D

I'm listening on the cans because my girlfriend is sleeping, but I had to hear your latest. And I'm glad I did, this is great! I'll give it a better listen on speakers in the morning, but I like what I'm hearing so far a lot.

Only one thing...this is ME telling YOU...this is not a "vocal up" mix. They sound great.....boost 'em!

Dude!

Spicy tune you've created. I enjoyed the diversity and a common thread with the lyrics. The vox effect was cool. Your screams are nice and full. I really liked the double time with lyrics around :58. I heard the mud on the bass as well. The only thing that I didn't care for was the break stops on the exit. They were kinda weak. Maybe a stronger percusion alternating with git fills. Just a limp thought.
This is one complete song for sure. It gives the listener energy in a happy, frivolous, f*ck it all sort of way. And the vocals were all in tune;).

I think you've broke out of a box and this is my fav song of yours. Something has changed for the better! I feel a more coherent vision without compromise of style.

Peace,
Theron.

phew!!!....

I have to listen to this again and be more specific on some items...but the first thing that hit...well...actually two things.. The first, is that this a great tune, and actually hits me as one of your better tunes you've put up here. There were some lead solos in there that were just absolutely pure perfect.... The 2nd thing...was that this song didn't seem to have the fidelity of your other stuff... I'll need to compare to some other stuff and get back to you on that one. But...it didn't really bother me, because it was really good. Your solo at 2:45..the little guy...killer bees!!!!

the different sections of this song seem to blend into each other better too.. ok...lemme listen to this sucker again.

You've got a different reverb happining...I suppose it is ok...but I'm confused on this fidelity thing again. Your bkgrd, feedback sounding lead is really imaginative. Nice riffing (and singing) at :54+ ....this is just all good. phew!!!! great screams...;phew!!!! You're a good drummer too. I love the segue into the dbl bass....just great stuff....I'm just gushing...kick ass stuff. I've gotten to really like your singing too. Aw....that lead again @ 2:46...perfect! Damn...I sound like a groupie...kick ass stuff man.. I need to move next door!!

I went back and listened to Acid Rain to compare. Definately better fidelity.

this song you just did...lacking high end...and low end too.
but it kicks some serious booty, performance wise. You're kinda like the hard rock Erland version... the recording doesn't matter on the song, because it just rocks. The reverb at the beginning..on the drums, at the end (these places where it is most noticeable and naked..)...sounds kinda like a cheap one.

all in all....B+ recording.... A- writing....A++ Playing

one last thing...
you need to hang up your plunger, and quit this music stuff as a hobby, get some good people around you, and become a sucessful musician/writer. Besides...you probably have a lousy butt-crack for being a plumber anyway:rolleyes:

Sam,

Another rockin tune!
You definatly nailed the changes,perfect.
The guitar sound is awsome!

You ever see Caberet, where they stand under a tunnel, wait for a train and scream as loud as they can,and totally get off.
You must be at total peace after singing like that!:D

Great stuff.

Best to you,
Pete

Of the stuff I've heard from you, this is my favorite. I really like that rythm guitar line that travels throughout the song. It's very hypnotic.

Excellent screaming. Excellent guitar solos. Excellent drums. I give it an A+ all around.

Oh and I love the lyric "if at first i don't succeed...."

I have to admit I don't listen to a lot of metal or Iron Maiden type stuff but I do know when I hear a good performance and you nailed just about everything.

Nice sound all around. I like the clarity of the snare. I also like the bigness of the guitars.

I just wished that the singer's natural voice would have come in after a while.

Nice piece, Nice mix.

funk on!

Cool tune man!You definetly have your own little niche and style.I doubt there's another like you.:D

You said:"The double bass part is a drum machine, and the rest is played on pads.

What kind of pads do you use?

Nice recording of a well structured song!:)

Now, first the mixing:
The bass guitar overpowers the guitar a little. The rhythm guitar could also be a little more louder, but only a little. The kick drum is a little muddy for this killer. The drums are a bit artificial for my tastes, especially the snare, which is too short sounding. The beginning part, where there's a singing and also guitar, I'd put the guitar more surround. Now all the stuff is in the middle in the first verse. The singing mixing is a bit too "telephone bandpass". Too much low-pass and hi-pass, I guess. I wish you wouldn't hide your vocals that way, because I think you sound great.

And the song itself:
This song has different moods again, and you rock as always. Some quieter parts, which predict the angry stuff that comes after. I also like the bluesy riff you get going there once in a while. And the outro is also pretty good. I don't think the double-bass thing in the middle works that well. I mean, the melody and singing is good, but somehow I don't know if I like double bass on that part. I can already recognise your playing in the solos. You certainly have your style already, and I must say I like it.

thanks for sitting through this one guys

SLuiCe - I dont know what I'm doing wrong.. I thought people would be saying the vocals were too loud. I can no longer judge for myself. I listened on different sets of speakers and really thought the vox were too loud......help!:D thanks

theron - thanks for the words man... I thought I got a really good bass sound so this is just another reminder that my mixing abilities, or lack of, are getting worse.. I have no idea how the ending came about, it just ended that way.. I should give these things some thought in the future instead of being suprised in the end. I wanted the verses to be bass driven, but it seems I made them "mud driven." :D thanks man

mixmkr - I am very suprised by your response.. Dead on with your negatives as usual.. I tried some different things mix wise and it seems it did not work out.. the music for this was recorded a few months ago and I just did the vocals yesterday.. This was done before I got the J-Station. You are right about the fidelity. I dont know why the songs come out different sounding when for the most part, I try to get them to sound similar.. I used no e.q. and only used the Sonic Maximizer on the bass and the vocals. I really didnt think you would like this one at all.. I cant believe that you think it's one of the better songs I put up. BTW, those backround leadish noises are a keyboard..(Roland) I really love those modulated theramin droney type sounds.:D I dont know what to do because I keep making the same mistakes song after song. I think the vocals are too loud, everyone else thinks there too low etc. I think I have a great bass sound, it gets labeled as "mud." :D thanks for the comments mix... my job really stinks sometimes because I hurt my hands, and my boss tells me my songs are better than my plumbing.:D Oh, and as far as being the heavy Erland, all I can say is "holy macaroni!"
:D

muzeman - you are exactly right..:D Some people punch walls and break things, I scream into a mic and record it, and I feel totally relaxed after.. I get the same result but I dont hurt my hand....just my ears. I didnt see 'Caberet' but I'll look for it.:D thanks man!

enrichenryus - thanks man.. I really am suprised that someone would think this was the best song I put up.. especially if you dont normally listen to heavy stuff, this is an earful! :D I appreciate the comments dude

CyanJaguar - thanks for checking it out. I cant seem to get a proper vocal sound. I am really considering on getting one of those auto-tune devices. They have a rack version I might check out. thanks....and Funk yourself! :D

Kramer - thanks.. I use a Roland PD-9 for the snare, Pd-7's for the high hat, ride, and crash, and PD-5's for the toms. I hope to upgrade one day. I use a KD-7 for the bass drum with a regular Pearl bass pedal. The brain is a Roland TD-8.... the double bass part is a preset that I did not alter at all. thanks man... and let's hope to God there is no one else like me! :D

Cranky One - I think you might have a point about the drums. I set up new sounds for the next tune but I saved this also. As far as the singing being too 'telephone bandpass', you have a GREAT ear because the name of the program for the vocals sound was 'telephone.' :D Really!! I thought it had a cool sound when I overdrive the mic a bit without clipping the input. I wont use this sound on our collaboration. :) The bluesy riff is only one guitar because when I tried to double that part, I couldnt play it the same way twice. I kinda just wanted to flow.. thanks as always Crank.. I hope I dont ruin the collab..

thanks for the ears everyone..

yeah, I take a break from listening to my 2 chord, soft, quiet, acoustic ditties, and listen to sami's metal and it puts all thinks in perspective. Great stuff as usual. Believe or not, sami, every now and then I'll come home and when no one is there, I'll plug up the strat and crank my little 30 watt amp to about 9 and frail the hell out of that bitch. Man, it's like listening to your tunz. And it really helps to wind down. Use a little energy, you know.

Oh yeah, forgot to say, I'll even scream sometimes. he he he he

dtb

Having another listen today on speakers. Holy Shit man This really DOES ROCK!!! Sounds like the vox are sitting nicely now. Mixmkr is totally right...Hang up the plunger.

How about a harmony 2:03? Maybe even scream it but lay it back more? No complaints at all on the mix or the song. Nice work again!

Hey Sab -- Cool tune. I heard some Sabbath/Ozzy influence in there. I still think you have some of the most creative changes around -- whoa, and what happened around 2:00 or so -- a complete change almost going into a different song.

I don't really have any mixing advice since I can only listen in lo-fi. I really liked your drumming and the music was very creative. The screams made me scream - lol!

Great job!
