Alright just listened again. That siren is still kickin' ass. Vocals are sittin' well volume wise, but that "trick" makes it sound a little bit phasey. So, did you ever think about creating drum samples? I'd buy them. :D

Yeah it does make the vox sound phasey. Never doing it again. I coulda muted those extra tracks, but fuck it.

I made some drum samples for a few folks in here, but I don't know if they were usable or not, or if they use them at all. I don't know the first thing about how to make or use samples. If they wound up in a recycle bin, it wouldn't surprise or bother me one bit.

Sounds good - drivin beat and the mix works for me!

Thanks Ido! :D

Yeah, this is pretty sick. I never have anything for you man, but am compelled to check in nonetheless. I think it sounds great.

I guess maybe it seems overall a little brighter with more present cymbals than I remember from past offerings, but that may just be my set up here.

You are lucky in that the natural sound of your voice is really, really well suited to covering your favorite band and your kind of music in general. I'm not saying you sound exactly like them (you'd know better than I), but it's a pretty damn good fit. My voice is probably only naturally suited to crash test dummy songs :o :p

My older sister and I wore out that record of theirs with blitzkrieg bop on it in the early eighties. I always thought that was the coolest song title. :)

Yeah Blitzkrieg Bop is great. I've heard that song probably eleventy billion times, and I still never skip it on the MP3 player. Classic.

Anyway, thanks dude. Good ear on the cymbals. They are indeed a little brighter. I switched back to wood sticks and you can really hear it in the tins. I like it.

As for my voice, I am indeed lucky. Thanks. I chose the right kind of music to do. I can't sing for shit. Thank God I don't have to be an actual singer to do what I do. I just kind of bark/sing somewhere near the right pitch and it's all good. :D

I dunno, if some random, aging punker put this tune on a radio, I'd say: "sounds like The Ramones, but not so, ummm.... messy" So, I think that's a compliment :o:D
I think you pretty much nailed it without even working very hard. :):D:cool:

The good ones make it look effortless :(

- So is this track mastered? It seems like you got really nice volume out of it with out much clipping at all.

I have a huge range of peaks when I am mixing drums/guitar/bass/vocals and I can't get that level of volume - haven't really tried my hand at mastering yet -

F*ing awesome mix man - its just sick

Lol. Thanks dude. The Ramones were far from messy though. They were like a machine. You had to see them live to really appreciate how good they really were. Lots of technically "better" bands with technically "better" musicians have covered them, and it's always a train wreck. Always. You should hear Metallica, or Pearl Jam, or U2 do Ramones songs. It's atrocious.

Thanks. Yeah it's half-assedly "mastered". It's definitely not clipping. Start with a clean recording with good sounds and good tonal balance and "mastering" gets pretty easy for one song.

The London show was the basis of It's Alive wasn't it? That was the 1st ramones artefact I bought - hot off the shelf of Abbey Records Cabramatta. Double LP with gate fold containing utter bliss. I recorded it to cassette & took it to the pub that same night. My mates & I sat around a portable cassette player in the Lounge bar of the El Cortez Hotel playing the entire album whilst quaffing schooners of Reschs best.
The pub,ic weren't happy as they couldn't play the top 40 juke box. The publican wasn't happy but there were several of us & we were buying big.
The Ramones, and excellent quality covers such as this, generate the response of Beer, Friends, Volume, REplay & more BEER!
Excellent job Greg.

Thanks Ray.

Yeah "It's Alive" was their second visit to London. The first time was on our bicentennial - July 4, 1976. The first visit is generally regarded as a pivotal, defining moment in the birth if UK punk. The Clash, the Pistols, the Damned, etc were all in their infancy, and the Ramones came in and showed em how to do it. Joe Strummer himself has been quoted about a million times saying that basically no one knew how to do anything until that first Ramones show in London. Johnny Rotten said he was scared shitless. The Ramones were like a gang from NYC coming to beat them up. Lol. Anyway, by the time of "It's Alive" in late 77, the Ramones, and punk in general, were on fire and it sounds that way. That's a truly fantastic live album.

Great job gerg. Your guit sounds keep getting better and better dude.

Awesome job on the intro sirens and shit.

I need ot quit my fucking job or take some vacation.

Members of the Clash etc were actually let into the 76 gig by the band as the6y didn't have the price of admission.
A revolution was started by a) music & b) goodwill.
I'm sure Johnny wasn't happy forgoing the entry price from the acolytes but he & they did - the rest is great music & even greater history.
Great recording too!
I have about 5 Ramones doco DVDs - I'll probably spend the weekend watching them again now!

Lol. Fuck yeah. I admit, I'm a retarded Ramones fanboi. I think I've seen every doc, read every book, and heard every unreleased demo track they've ever done. :o

I think I'm gonna start doing a Ramones cover every week. It only took one afternoon. Got any requests? :D

Really Greg? I never guessed you were a Romones fan :D

I recon you have a great Joey Ramone voice... and I know you don't want mix advice on this. But even though I can hear the vocal really clearly, and it's really dry (which I also like), I feel it is somehow a bit back in the mix. Perhaps bring up the volume and give it a bit of ambience to rest it back on the mix?
