Here's a link to the Psychotropically derivative thing I posted a couple of weeks back.
It now has REAL DRUMS.
The mix is pretty much sorted but waiting for vocals & a solo.

THis mix hasn't any final reverb or EQ but has been thrown through a limiter for temporary extra volume.
Any thoughts?

clong89,
What fuzz guitar? Now, be a little more specific. Which guitar, (L, R 1st one, comes in at 1.45 etc), & what do you percieve to be a problem so I can respond?

Cool ray. I was psyched to get to hear this. It sounds cool with live drums. Interesting to hear greg on a tune like this. A first for me anyway. You can almost hear that he sounds like he just wants to blast off into a faster jam at any moment, but he reigns it in pretty nicely here.

Not sure the drums blend in with the rest mix-wise as well as they might? Not sure what it is - not necessarily the levels, but they just kind sound separate from the rest to me. I dunno, it's gotta be tough combining all that stuff. Nice work.

Tune sounds great with the drums. Mix is balanced on these headphones, bass in the pocket, good clarity on the guitars, levels are good. Bring on the vocals

nice with the drums...they sounded good to me, levels seemed good...this tune could go either way depending on where you take it from now...it could definitely be contemporary or very retro...

jangly without being annoying, nice bass

finish it  :D

btw, megaupload? "you're 'avin' a soapy bath!"

like the feel, the guitar sounds are pretty unorthodox, the clean drums sound out of place - they aren't mixing well with everything else being on the lofi side.

Time to baptize those guitars I guess :/
I'm not sure I understand lo-fi - the sound is signature rayc.
Drums sound good nicely set into the mix. Nice playing Greg.
Sure wish I had your bass rig....

didn't mean to say unorthodox as in a religious way, maybe i chose a poor word? the guitar sound isn't something that you'd normally hear. how's that? that's not a knock. the drums sound fine, but the drums and other tracks, in my opinion, don't exactly gel together.

Do you have another link? I wanted to hear the song but was prompted to download another player app that would take up space on my netboook..
Thanks.

Nice stuff Ray, You stay very true to your style and I love it.
The chord structure and those Jangly guitar really is your signature mate:cool:
Mix sounded well balanced to me, nice chops from the Girg to:)

IndustrialOkie,
sorry mate. I have very restricted upload acces at present so that's the only link at present. I've not encountered that message before - it's a 9 meg ish download file & shouldn't be on any player. I thik you'll have to block a few pop ups.

heatmiser,
I haven't thrown any reverb or EQacross the mix yet so they drums will stand out a little until I have all elements incorporated - still holding for Vocals. Thanks for the kind words.
Bulls Hit,
You are very generous. thanks for the bass comment. I was happy with the original bass track but Greg suggested retracking to lock iin with the new drums &, as usual, he was right! Yep, need some crooning doesn't it!
kcearl,
Either way - not both ways? There was a pop song in the mid 70's by some expat pommies downunder - a band called Supernaut (after the Sab track) called I Like It Both Ways! They denied any entendre status! thanks for the kind words.
thebigredhotdog,
The drums are pretty clean aren't they. The drummer is a bathaholic or is that a tubophile? Things will match better when I have everything there to combine I hope. thanks mate.
ido1957,
Is it Greek Unorthodox or Coptic? The guitar baptism will be evoked with incendary slashes care of some dude in the former Commonwealth games village! Bass rig - well on this I cheated ALL the way: vantage bass with round wound strings with the treble turned UP -> a Behringer Vtone BDI21 with gain & blend cranked, not too much treb & a little drive -> Presonus Blue Tube pre for a little gain -> cakewalk -> biggish cut below 50hz, 5 db cut at 100hz, 4db boost at 200hz and 5db boost at 3khz (all with a q of 3) then VST Classic Compresor with bass guitar setting. This sounds AWFUL solo'd but fits into & cuts through the mix nicely.
Thanks for the kind words & the other bit!
Nakatira,
I played around with tis using a VERY Hawkwind sonic approach but decided to go back to being me. Yeah, I have a bit of separation anxiety when it comes to the D shape! Thanks for the generous words.
New mix coming on the weekend with LEAD GUITAR (NOT by me of course!).

Wow, that's some great drum programming there.....
:laughings::laughings:
Greg is such a damn tight player, fantastic. It sounds great Ray, now get the voice on it fast! And if you can't dig up Terry, you've got my email.....;)
This has to be the best mix I've heard from you so far.

Hey man, the only thing I can say is that the snare sounds a bit too poppy for this time music. Personally I feel that a more warm, "snarey" type sound would fit better.

I don't know, this to me has a bit of country/southern rock type feel to it. Right now the snare sounds a bit too much like it was a programmed snare placed in there. But that's just me personally, not sure how it'll sound with the rest of the mix placed in there, I just felt I might throw that in there.
