Didn't mean to upset you, I disagree, that's all. I've been playing guitars longer than you've been alive. My experience doesn't coincide with your advice. I'm not saying you don't know anything, just that you couldn't have all that much hands on experience. I think you're just kinda saying things that others have told you or you read about. They might actually have that experience, I don't know. My experience with Gibson has been pretty good. Three Les Pauls (various years) an '06 SG Standard, A Firebird, An Explorer, A 3000 something with 3 p90's (monster) a Songbird, and a Chet Atkins. All great guitars......

That's fine. I'm not here to make your decision for you. Just make sure you try a few of the same guitar out before making a purchase, simple advice you probably already know.

Cheers, and I hope you enjoy whatever you end up with :)

I have to agree here

i've never played a gibson that i thought was a sorry piece of crap. i can't say the same about epiphone. :)

I hate the weight of a les paul, but every gibson I've ever played was pretty damn good. Even the old 70's Gibson Ripper bass my dad has. But Epiphones? I've picked up numerous pieces of crap from them. Especially the accoustics.

That's rather ignorant, but okay.

If money isn't an object then, you should go ahead and look used for a vintage Gibson. I stand by what I said earlier about the LP being the most versatile of your choices, and you apparently MUST have the real deal, which is fine, but I urge you to look at nothing newer than early-90's.

I just bought a gibson studio les paul....a 2007 model and it's a great guitar.
I'm 47 and played alot of guitars through 3 decades of giging...so, I think I have paid enough dues to disagree about the new gibsons being crap.
As far as body routing goes...they need to keep doing what they are doing because I had a '76 les paul custom that was a great guitar...but it was too heavy for comfort. My new studio sounds and plays just as good as the custom did but it's lighter.
They are not SELLING at over a thousand bucks because they are crap and $400 epis are better.

Use some common sense bro.
