ProTools vs. DP4 for midi

Hey guys,

I've been using ProTools (MBox) for a couple years now, and haven't found a 'comfortable' way to sequence midi. I'll usually have 5-10 midi tracks, and I'll record 2-3 live tracks. My midi playback is through an external Roland XV-5050 sound module.

I've heard that DP4 is better suited to handle projects that are mostly midi, but I love the ProTools brand and the compatibility/freedom I have to take my project to a working studio to finish it.

So with that said, does any one have any comments as to whether it's worth it to invest in DP4 for this kind of work? Would it be practical/possible to do midi on DP4, then send it to ProTools to record audio and mix it down?

Thanx for any and all help!

it's totally possible. When DP originally came out they were built mainly for MIDI while Pro Tools has only had MIDI capabilities for the past 5 or so years. Obviously Pro Tools is still working out some kinks. If you can afford it I would say it would definitely be worth getting DP4...doing all your MIDI sequencing in there, bouncing it down as audio and bringing it in to PT to add it to the rest of your mix. I think a lot of people like to do this.

p.s.....if you have anymore Pro Tools questions or would like to give your PT advice come join us at the forum listed in my signature. Tell 'em benny sent ya and you'll get special treatment!
