A friend of mine wants me to add some tracks to a project he's working on. The stuff he is doing (in Melbourne) is done in ProTools.

This is what he said:
"Neil has provided me with the tracks on DVDs in PRO-TOOLS format. Would you be happy to check out a few examples?"

Because I use Reaper, I'm not sure whether I can read PT stuff. If PT records to WAV files, I can import them easily enough, but my understanding is that PT records to its own format.

Is that right?

Reaper wont be able to read the ptf. (Pro Tools File) so you wont be able to open the project up as a project in reaper. However Pro Tools does record in WAV. or AIFF. formats so you should be able to easily import each track into your Reaper project, just hope that you know where each track goes and each track has been recorded to or edited to the bar, or else working out where each part should go to the sample will be difficult

I had not really expected to be able to open a ptf project in reaper, but so long as i can get to the files, that would be fine. It's a messy way of doing it, but I'll get by.

Thanks for your help!

No worries, Iv had to spend alot of time in the not too distant past having to rearange tracks into Pro Tools from Cubase
