protools now on leopard

for anyone who didn't know,

digidesign have now released protools for leopard update, which is available as a free download and requires your original 7.4 validation code.

unfortunately, it IS NOT compatible with 10.5.1 or 10.5.2, but instead is compatible with 10.5.3, which is a free update from apple.

in brief testing, this new version has resolved any power loss/plugin problems that i had,

Which version of Protools are you using, LE or HD? Also, which Mac are you using? The reason I am asking is because I want to switch from HP to Mac. As I understand, the new Mac Pro comes with two quad core processors, a total of 8 cores. I can buy a Mac with one quad processor, a total of 4 cores. Will the four core Leopard be compatible with ProTools LE? I e-mailed Digidesign and there answer was to check their website.

do check their website then, it's all listed there under version compatibility.

i MAY be wrong here but,,,as far as i know,

all versions up to 7.4cs2 are compatible up to the last version of tiger only.

an hd version(7.4.2?) was released for leopard 10.5.1 compatibility,

and an le version(7.4.2pr) was released for 10.5.3 compatibilty.

the leopard versions are on the website under news or downloads/compatibility.




i use 10.5.3 leopard with 7.4.2pr protools LE on a 2.4ghz core2duo mac pro.

core 2 duo is an older version and a new mac pro has 8 cores. My friend suggested that if I buy a new computer it makes sense to get a new release. He got his G5 in 2005 and now it looks like history.On the website they wrote that Pro tools 7.4.2 for HD is compatible with 8 core Mac. But there are no details in their update for Pro tools 7.4.2 for LE. I e-mailed the 2nd time and did not get a response... thanks a lot

if so, i can't say for fact,,,,but like i say, i'm running it just fine on core2duo.

(2.4ghz core2duo,4gb ddr667 ram, nvidia 7600gs 512mb)

i can't see why it would be an issue though?

but, since your intention is to buy,,,,could you not try a pirate version from the special bay or something?

i'm suggesting this purely because you want to buy software, and can't get an answer from the manufacturers support.

I can't buy Mac Pro core 2 duo, now it has 2 quad core precessors. So, to get core 2 duo, I'd have to buy Mac Book Pro. I always used tower. What are the limitations of Mac book in comparison with a tower?... Thank you

sorry, i've mislead you,

i'm not suggesting that you should buy core2duo,,,,,

i'm just saying, if it runs fine on core2duo and digidesign give it the ok for dual quad core,,,i can't see why your single quad core wouldn't be fine. :)



as far as a macbook is concerned,,,i don't know the ins and outs,,but a tower is generally the way forward.

usually any notebook will have a slower hdd speed (5400) and often a lower cpu cache and ram speed. I'd stay desktop tower if i were you
