under the guise of saving cpu power while recording, i ask of you this question.

i record to pro-tools, but i monitor with my analog mixer.

what i'd like to be able to do is send the snare and toms to the same reverb in pro-tools and have them affect the tracks individually.

if i was mixing ITB, i'd simply send a bus and adjust the bus level...but i dont really want to eat up an extra console channel with just REVERB...

any ideas fellows?

not quite sure what you mean here. so you've got your individual tracks it PT going to seperate channels on your mixer? and you don't want to use up an extra channel on yer mixer for your drum verb?

why not set the output of your drum verb to the same output as your snare/toms tracks? however this will mean getting your wet-dry ration set before you go out to your mixer...

well, i was saying i only wanted to use ONE plug-in for all the the tracks mentioned...not one on each

actually i think ive thought of a workaround....ill give it a shot later, and if it works, ill post here

That's pretty common. Just setup a buss in PT with reverb and send how much you want of each track with an aux send.

whatever work around i came up with...it either didnt work i just completely blew whatever i was thinking of at the time....

ill try and explain this better

FOR EXAMPLE:
i have tracks 1-4 in PT and they are all to use the same reverb...
is there anyway to send them all to a plug-in to get the same reverb (using only one instance of the plug-in) and have them return (just like an insert, using software)

ive been playing with busses (doesn't seem to be what i need) and dont quite understand the insert situation inside of PT...

any help???

this is how you typically do this situation:

create a mono aux track (if you're sending all mono sources to it, otherwise create a stereo aux trac).
create sends on the tracks you want sent and assign them to a valid bus
assign the sends on the track to prefader
assign the input of the aux track to that bus
insert a mono/stereo reverb plugin on the aux track.
go back to each send and adjust the level you want sent to the reverb track.

the reverb effect on the aux track doesn't return anywhere....you don't usually want to return time based effects. The aux track will just be assigned to your monitor output.

ahhh ok...so im gonna have to use another track...

it's an aux track. it doesn't use up a voice like an audio track does...if that's what you're wondering.
So it doesn't go towards the 32 voice limit.

what interface are you using?

why are you incorporating the analog console? Are you mixing on it?

im using a digi002r

i'm using the analog console (aside from it's preamps) for monitoring in the control room, talkback, headphone mixes, alt srcs etc

are you running the outputs of each track individually to it's own channel on the board?
I'm just confused why you think you are needing to run the aux track in Pro Tools out to it's own channel on the console. Just run the stereo outputs in Pro Tools to a stereo channel on the mixer and you can have fader control over just that.

yes...im running the channels individually out...

it gives me greater ease while monitoring (from my best position) to adjust sends and the monitor mix...

for mixing or just for tracking?
you can control all that in the box though. You're still going to have to do all the fader moves in Pro Tools for bounce downs. And headphone cues can be created in Pro Tools.

but I don't know...I guess whatever works for you

im just doing what works for me right now...

this is all for tracking...i dont do any mixing here, as of now
