What kinda problems would I run into if I tried to use Digi 001 on an AMD T-Bird Athlon processor? I know that you're supposed to have an Intel if you're using a PC, but what will go wrong if I use the AMD?

T-Bird and Digi 001

I am using an Athalon 1.2 ghz with the Digi 001 and I am getting great results. I purchased a computer from Micron and they use the GA-7DX motherboard with the 266 FSB and the PC 2100 DDR memory. This is currently the fastest processor and produces the highest plugin count on the Digi platform. On my system I can get 24 tracks of audio with 4 D-Verbs and 96 additional plugins (24 4-B EQ, 24 compresssors, 24 limiters and 24 slap delays) before the system is maxed out.

There has also been success with the Asus A7V motherboard using the PC133 SDRAM. Digi does not currently support the AMD processors, so until support comes, you may be on your own. However, the P4 is also not supported by Digi at this time. From posts that I have read, the performance is respectable for the P4, but more expensive and not as good as the Athalon.

So far the only problem I have run into with my 1.2 ghz system is the automation meters which show CPU load and system usage. Since these meters don't actually tell the % of usage, they are not particularly useful anyway. I am very pleased with my system. Go to the Digi Users Conference and do a search under Athalon, and you should be able to get more information to make an informed dicision. Good luck.
