Prosonus MP20 vs. Mackie vs. Audiobuddy?

Hi,

I am considering what to get to use as a pre-amp. Currently I am running everything (vocals and guitar) through a Digitech RP2000. I have just upgraded from a SBLive! to a Delta 44 and will be buying a RNC compressor soon. The last piece I need is some kind of pre-amp for vocals, I have narrowed it down to a few vary different options and was wondering if anyone could suggest which is best. The Prosunus MP20 is the most expensive, costing about $500 (I can't find a used one on EBay), but seems to be the most professional solution. Next option is the Mackie 1202 VLZ, I don't necessarily know that I would use it as a mixer, but priced at $250 or so on Ebay, if the pre-amps are decent it seems like a good buy. The cheapest alternative would be the Audiobuddy which is sold by Midiman, it is less than a hundred dollars and *claims* that it is a very transparent pre. If this is true, it would certainly be a nice bargain.

I am currently a college student working a co-op, so I can afford a Prosonus if thats what I should get. I am mostly multi-tracking my own material now, though I am looking toward eventually doing demos for other bands. Any thoughts would be very appreciated....

Of the three you have mentioned, the Prosunus MP20 is by far the best coice... and it is well worth the extra bucks.

if you want to save some money and still have a good pre-amp, the Presonus Blue Tube sells for $160 new.

Fishmed, with the Prosunus, would I have a complete recording set-up? That may sound like a silly question but is SM57->Prosunus->RNC->Delta a complete recording chain?

Also, will I be able to monitor with headphones using only the Presunus?

Thanks so much..

See the thread in "The Rack" titled Bruce/Blue Bear... some MP info there...

You should check into the presonus Ive got the bluetube and I would reccomend it.

How about an M-Audio Delta Onmi....damn fine preamps and made to give your Delta 44 some pretty flexible routing....auxillarys for that RNC...what else do you want.....

I am tracking in Digi-001. It has preamps built in. I hate them. I couldn't figure out how to get a good sound. I then went through my Mackie 24-8 and felt at home. I use Mackies a lot (live).

I would think that for a small set up, you could get a decent preamp and mixer to boot if you purchase a VLZ-1202.

Just my 2 cents worth.
