properly configured?

Hey people. I'm slowly getting into computer recording, and I keep hearing people say that even though one's computer must have lots of RAM and hard disk space, what's really crucial is that one's computer must be configured properly. Can anyone explain exactly what that means, and how do I go about doing it. I've recently built a PC. Its got an ASUS p4pe-x mobo, 512DDR, P4, 7200rpm Western Digital HD, WinXP Pro. I'd like to use it with the Digi 002. I've also been told that I need two HD's. One for the OS, the other for audio programs. How do I go from one to the other. Thanks for your time.

Not true. It's nice to do, but by no means necessary. With a modern machine, you might get a whisker of extra performance with a dedicated audio data drive... maybe...

How do you "go from one to the other?" Have you ever opened something off a floppy from a program? Or a CD-ROM? It's just another device that stores files. Basically you would configure your recording software to use the second drive as its place to write the recorded data. There's really nothing to it.
