Anyone ever used this program? I've used the demo version Rebirth to make little loops before but I need more than it has..

It's pretty pricey, that's why I'm asking for input..thanks!

Reason is worth the money if you have a use for it. What are you trying to do?

depends on what you want to do. Reason has a great loop player, and it's virtual rack principle is quite OK, you got a great loop player and a handy sampler and virtual synth. The sequencing part is not easy to use though.

I want to make some drum loops with lots of ambient sounds on them to play along with. My plan was to make the loops on there and since it has effects and stuff to put reverbs and synth sounds on top. Then I was going to copy them onto my akai s-20 and play along with them (drums) for another dimension.

which VST plug-in was the one that was like a virtual drum machine, utilizing .wav files?

Was that Reason?

Reason isn't a plug-in, though with Propellerhead's ReWire software you can use it with Cubase, Logic and now Sonar. Steinberg's LM4, Native Instrument's Battery and FXpansion's DR-008 are VST drum machine plug-ins.. (the last two will work as either VST or DirectX)..You can use .wav files ; they will also load soundfonts and other formats.

Keith,

Reason should be pretty good for that...Have you tried the Reason demo yet? Craig Anderton has an article on Reason in the April Keyboard magazine you might want to look at. There is also a running tutorial on Reason in Computer Music magazine; the April issue focuses on building beats in Reason.

what's up j,
yea i just tried the demo today. i thought it was pretty cool although i was having trouble using the synths and samplers to make the sounds i wanted, but 20 minutes wasn't long enough for me to figure that part out very well. I'll check out those two articles as well.
Another problem with taking this leap is I'm going to have to upgrade my computer & soundcard, but i bet it will be worth it if i go for it.

what are you using for a soundcard and a computer now? like cpu type/speed , memory.

Don't laugh...
Pentium II -300, Soundblaster 16 soundcard, and i think 64 mb ram.

I don't really use it for serious music stuff anyways, but since I need to get it upgraded anyways, now would be a good time to get a better sound card and try out this new stuff.

I'm not going to personally do it, but the guy that built this one will...

Hey dude , I had the same problem

I really wanted this program , and yes , you are right it is very pricey , in my opinion. But I found the .exe on KaZaa, and after a couple of days , finially got the sound bank cd downloaded , and cracked it. It took a couple of days to do it , but trust me , if you buy , or crack this program . It is WORTH IT. Its good stuff my friend. And if you want it for free I can e mail it to ya if ya want . But if you buy it , trust me , you won't be dissappointed.:D

My e mail ,, is Deadboyy007@hotmail.com

P.S ,, what can be better than free

(Openly bragging about using cracked software is not appreciated here)

I am not bragging

I just wanted to tell him, and everyone else how to do it. I was just trying to save the guy a pay check or two;) ,,,, I mean hey he sounds like me,, I hear alot of people bragging on here about there 2000 dollar near field monitors , and there 2000 dollar mixers,, you should go after them ,, and I am not the kind of guy that can just go out and spend 300 to 500 dollars on a little cd. And I think alot of people on here are in the same catagory. But nahh , im not braggin.. And for some strange reason I just dont care about software piracy,, just like I dont care about ripping the tags off of my bed ,, or coping a vcr tape with the FBI warning on it ,,,, I guess I should ,, but I guess im just politically incorrect for this bbs...:p

If you are looking for a program such as Reason, take a look at Orion. It does everything that Reason does, has a much better user interface, has more synths and effects and on top of that it can use plugin effects and synths. Ah... and it's cheap as hell so you don't have to steal something.

I happen to run the biggest orion support site so come take a peak: http://www.orion-central.com

Demo's available that have only save and stream-to-wav disabled, with no time limit so you can try it out to your hearts content.

Peter.
