Hi can anyone suggest an easy to use program for my pc that I can use to remove certain instruments from a midi track and then save it again as a midi after it has been adjusted.

more detail please. exactly what are you trying to do. ?
normally when i record midi, i record each instrument to its own track like
trumpet, drums etc etc.

You are looking for a sequencer. Cakewalk seems popular.

Try midi editor freeware called JAZZ++ from www.jazzware.com

It's easy to delete a track, change an instrument or adjust the pan.

Can do the above in a few seconds, click Save, and you're done.

I use it to remove vocal guide tracks, change instruments ( usually bass or piano )

cool thanks johnymegabyte I'll check out that site shortly
Manning1 I want to take out the guitar then play it as a midi without the guitar while I practise playing my guitar alongside the other instruments in the midi track, I don't want to do any recording just remove one instument.

well i'm no midi expert but powertracks that i use will do that i'm sure.
but its hardly worth you spending 49 bucks on a piece of software just to
do this one thing you need. but what i use will let you take a midi track
and rechannel to a number of tracks or filter out certain things.
it has a full blown event editor as well.
if you get stuck you might want to try the demo at pgmusic.com.
but i would try johnnys solution first. if you get stuck, also ask the midi experts on the forum at pg. they might have a cheap freeware solution for you. they know way more about midi than i do.
peace.

Thanks manning1 Iwill check out the pg music forums as well

With Jazzware you can Mute a track. However, key changing means altering the "midi data"

IF your looking for strictly a player that you want to Mute a track, even key change, try freeware from www.vanbasco.com This program also displays lyrics for MID or KAR type files. It has CD-like player controls, too. You can even create playlists ( groupings of songs )

I use either Jazzware or Vanbasco for playing midi ( mute the guitar track ) and play my guitar.

I use Jazzware for editing midi. This program works on a 486 PC. I use it to Delete a track (usually vocal guides), change an instrument, alter the pan / volume.

I use Jazzware if I am working on a new song, and "loop" the 12 or 16 bars, or drums, midi bass and maybe strings. When I tweek it to become a "keeper", I use Copy and Paste the section to build the song.

Manning1 --- I'm looking at going Powertracks in the near future.
Question: Is a 350 mhz PC OK for Midi and maybe 4 audio tracks ?

I work in the record business in TO, but I am stricly a home / hobby musician today. No gigs in years. Some club jams, once in a while.
I haven't done any audio recording on PC yet. I've been using jazzware for over three years, for midi. Midi is my band :D
I have done some 4 track cassette recordings, with no drums. So, with midi, I have added the opportunity to include drums, and others instruments to my songs, and others I like to play. With Powertracks I might be able to achieve what I wanted to do for the last 25 years.

johnny i'm going to give you a link to the cheapest pc's around for 350 bucks. just make sure you overspec the power supply.
canadasys.com
with respect your 350 mhz just wont do it. i'm sorry. just being truthfull.
or look in the buy and sell in toronto for a used athlon 2ghz.
but with the link i gave you no reason to buy used as new prices are so good.
also - as you like to have a "back up band". this is highly addictive. check out the demo of band in a box at pg. what a lot of folks do is do their back up band in biab then import "the band" into powertracks and add their vocals,
and guitar and other instruments. with respect jazz is fine for a freebie ,
but you wont use it again once you check out what ive told you.
peace.

THANKS --- you've given me a positive outlook on BIAB.
One friend didn't like BIAB because it didn't dive him desired results in midi

i would just try the demo johnny of both biab and powertracks.
both have changed significantly. always getting more features.
some people think a feature isnt there when in fact it is ive found OFTEN.
your friend might have tried an older version.
so the best thing is if you find some feature you think is missing - ask on the pg forum and get clarification. toms of biab and ptpa expert users on the forums at pg.
