Hey everyone,
this is the final chapter to my latest progressive instrumental or "soundtrack". After the minute intro, I aimed for a building classic rock sounding piece for the first half, then it slows down a lot for the build to the finale.

I've heard this too many times & your tips are always helpful, so I could use any tips/criticism on the song or mixing since there's a lot to mix later on in the song

Thanks a lot :)

Some of you heard the first two chapters to this song I posted on this board... "The Mystery of the Double Dagger" leads into "A Memory" which leads into this song forming my 20 minute instrumental based on a book I'll probably never finish :) :)

Snake, nice tune. I really like this. You got some nice tones going on. How'd you get em? Direct? Wait....clipping or something at about 1:30...couple of blurbs. Playing is awesome, and very cool. Fix those little noises. You might need to quiet the whole mix down a little, as it's pretty hot. Other than small issues, I'm digging this.

Nothing much to add here, but I will say, it is a great song to hear. Good playing on your part, SnakeDog5050. Ok, now I hear some kind of weird sound. That's what Ed is talking about. It might be too loud, or you had a problem in your recording. A couple of times it made a funny sound. Good song though, and great job on the playing.

Hey thanks a lot guys :) I uploaded a new version with those blurbs around 1:30 fixed. I found out that the drum track for some reason made a few odd crackle noises in that section. Also, I thought I had this song perfectly below the clipping level, but I forgot I raised the bass after that, so that threw everything off a bit. So I dropped the whole song 2dB. Thanks for pointing that stuff out guys, I totally missed that somehow.

EdDog, you're right, I recorded all guitar/bass direct for this song. I have my guitar running straight into my preamp then into my soundcard. From there I did a bunch of tweaking with amplitube for the different amp sounds, then I added some echo/reverb effects on each track. Also, the high lead that comes in here and there is recorded twice and seperated a bit in the stereo field to really fill things up (it's obvious it's recorded twice at 4:01, but I kind of liked the sound of that mistake, so I didn't rerecord it). If you use amplitube at all I could send you the presets I made.

Thanks again for the listens and the tips :D

So, direct, clean, then amplitude provides the dirt, correct? Is this a vst? What program do you use? How much was amplitude? I've tried a few vst amp modelers, and they didn't work properly on my system...I use Audition. I try and mic when possible, but sometimes have to go direct, as at 2:00am, noise is not cool within the house....

nice tune, i love the build ups, and at the 1 min mark, i love that riff.
i'm listening as i type.

the bass sounds good, they are seated nicely.

nice playing btw, and at the 2:40 mark, i'm liking the guitars there alot.

i'm digging the end as well.

awesome song man.

Surfprog, I think Quintin Tarrantino would like your stuff, this very cool movie music.
once the rocking starts there some weird drops in tempo, wich I find very amusing, and cool.
Very Cool soloing.

I think this tune is great :) , it needs some pollishing, but the Ideas and stories are there, and belive me thats what counts.

I think the arrangment is very good as well, it could be just a tad tighter.

so all in all great work snakedog, love your style :)

Hey that's cool, surfprog :D maybe Tarrantino will come by this board and hire me for his next movie, then the chick from the song pic will show up at my door, also holding a whole bunch of awesome new gear with more in the new Porsche in the driveway (okay I'll stop day dreaming now :D :p :D )

Nak, thanks a lot man. I have a weird thing about liking to mess with tempos a lot. I agree that there's points I could tighten up some. I'll get on that sometime ;)

Anthrax, thanks! I tried to setup all the guitars so that they'd all come together to form one huge sounding guitar at 2:40, sounds like I accomplished that.

Thanks again guys, I really appreciate the comments :) :)

With the exception of the *click* between 1:50 and 1:51 and the harmonious, angelic voice in the background at 2:41, this is mixed pretty damn tight!

Hey thanks. One more *click* eliminated ;)

I went for a very angelic feel on the vox for this piece (actually I gotta stop making noises in "instrumentals" :p )

Dig the tremelo effect during the intro and how the song builds in intesity..like the tempo changes ,I like the melodic lead guitar.Good hook.
Nice job!

Very nice feel to this...Love the sound of everything...Drums, guitars. I'd like to hear a little more bass (guitar, not neccassarilly bottom end). Big wide sound to this. Awesome tempo changes. Strangely enough, some of it reminds of some Hendrix from "Crash Landing" but that might just be me. Awesome shit.

Hey thanks a lot Rami & axeman. Hmmm... I'm not quite hearing the "Crash Landing" connection, but my tune reminding a person of a Hendrix tune, I'll take that ;)
I'll adjust that bass a bit and see how it turns out. I wanted some high end in there & low end, but I might have reduced the mids too much, I will investigate it.

Thanks again for the listen :)

It reminds of parts of "Crash Landing" because there's a lot of jamming on that album...Or maybe I'm thinking of "War Heroes".....hmmm...whatever, it reminded me of some Hendrix!

Oh man I'm diggin it (I just typed the word "diggin" - a direct result of just listening to Ibanks tune ;) ) I forgot "Crash Landing" was an entire album. I was thinking just the song. Thanks again man, now I can walk around and say "People say I'm just like Hendrix" No, i'm kidding, I wouldn't do that

Peace

Fun trip :) This IS like a story like you said it's way out there and you don't know what's going to happen next. Cooool idea :) AND DO I HEAR ghosts in the background or have I lost it???????????????? Am I being haunted??? OR do they play in your band????? ARE YOU A GHOST??????? They actually gave me chills later in the song

I like this alot, I agree with who said the tempo changes are cool it really adds a lot when they come in. Everything sounds good to me, but ya know take that for what its worth. Great guitar playing. Cool song

take care

Hey thanks a lot for the listen gbav & pink dinosaur girl :D Gbav, comments like yours & others are going to motivate me to continue to mess with that tempo a lot since people seem to like it.

Dolphin, you got me, I'm a ghost. I used to be a dog, now I'm a ghostdog, but I call myself Snakedog because most snakes are actually ghosts. Therefore there are a lot more snakes then you realize because the ghost snakes are invisible.

Actually, I call that GG or GeeGee or "G"host "G"uitar, it's actually a guitar amp setting I have set up just to make ghost/wind noises. Dogman, I sent you that preset, it's called "GeeGee" Turn it up in your room, it'll make freaky noises you won't expect for you ;)

Thanks again guys & girl :) :p :)
