This is a clip that was recorded at my uncles professional studio. He uses Paris Pro and also fellows you can here what a Vox sounds like through an SM5 mic which is what a SM7 wished it sounded like. It is a very rare Mic and hard to come by. My uncle has used these mics for 20+ years as his main vocal mics and has produced grammy nominated artists! The artist is Don Rigsby one of Bluegrasses Top vocalist. Used to be with Lonesome Riverband for all you bluegrass fan. I think the tune is called, "I saw Mother in a vision"

the vocals sound very nice. full and smooth, and they layer very well. i'd say that mic sounds pretty damn good, can't say i've ever heard of that model before though. is it a Shure? dynamic?

google tells me he was singing into a rode shockmount

Hey treymonfauntre, if you don't care sport me the link claiming the statement. I haven't talked to my uncle about it yet but it would b rare if that is true unless Don brought the Rode Mic with him when recording it. My uncle rarely uses any other mic besides the sm5. You have me wondering now!

Excellent sounding vocalist - you can tell why he's one of bluegrass' top artists. There were a few spots there that I'd recommend a compressor where it pops up a tad, but they are minor. Would love to get a recording and a performance like this. Makes me remember why I used to play those wedding songs... :D

The vocal sounds ok.
Not into this genre so cant say much.
The vocals could definetly do with compression. Not too much, but enough to tame those pretty loud parts.

Good stuff,
Eck

i dunno Eck, i really appreciated the dynamics of the vocals on this song. i think it sounds perfect and is very refreshing compared to a lot of the squashed vocals i hear in the rock genres.

Hey Treymonfauntre, I talked to my uncle today and he confirmed that Don Rigsby did in fact sing his lead vocal through a Rode mic, backgrounds through SM5. I will definetly find a sample of the Sm5 so you fellows can hear it. Very smooth mic, clean, and never harsh. If you go to the website:
http://www.rivertrackstudio.com/Microphones.jpg The SM5 is the big fat foamed mic on the right about three up.
