Producer Fee

Hmmm, I was just talking to another artist in the same genre and she said that her producer's fee is about $10K a song and the producer is a reputable one. I also read that David Foster asked Michael Buble upfront for $500K to produce his album. I suppose it's not all that unusual for a producer to charge an upfront fee?

Yes, he will be handling everything during production as well as things outside of production such as touring.

Let's cut right to the chase.

Why don't you post a representative sample of your music?

Then we'll talk about whether spending 20k on a producer is going to help you.

lady gagas producer probably gets half a mil up front
but he is generating gigs, videos, cdsales, yada yada.
and generates revenue to make him worth it.

will your guy generate revenue?
is he renting the stadiums for your tour?
or will he book you into some bar and grill?
will he book you at all ??? that is the key question.
previously he was just going to try to shop you around
with no guarantee of a label contract to need a tour.

or is he going to talk you into funding the tour
and taking all the risk?

10K/song is about 100K per album.
but if he is a genuine reputable producer then he wont take your money unless he can sell the product to make you a profit.

this all sounds too much like the vanity publishing of books
where they stroke your ego take your money and leave you with nothing of value
