Hi all,
I'm looking at speccing out a new PC to be built round Cubase 3 and a load of RAM/CPU heavy FX and VSTi's.

I can work out most of the components I need, but don't want to break the bank, so am wondering if you could tell me the best Intel processor to get. I could (but certainly don't want to - due to price) go for an Uber quad extreme beast, but am under the impression most Audio software doesn't support Quad chips yet. am I right? Which is a happy medium between power and price (I'm running off a P4 1500 at the moment!)

Also, Is Cubase v3 happy running under Vista Home Prem? That seems to be the de-facto OS with any new machine these days.

Also, I'm running a Delta 44 soundcard at the mo - am thinking of upgrading to a a good and cheap alternative as this seems pretty old technology. Any recommendations?

Many thanks!

My new machine is a Pentium D dual core machine with 2GB RAM, 2 7200RPM Hard Drives, and Windows XP. I'm using a Delta 1010LT on it for my card. The whole setup, including the soundcard cost me around $500. I got my computer through CompUSA as one of their barebones kits... might be something to look at.

I know people are talking about PCI going obsolete, but if the card you have works for you now, it will work even better with a little extra speed behind it.

As far as Vista goes, I haven't tried it with the hardware, nor do I plan to. I don't use that computer for anything other than recording, so the extra security and what-not isn't important for my needs.
