Hello all,
the tech I've been using finally replaced the 2nd hand comp I bought from him late last year ($500 P4 & 1 Gig Ram with the specific instruction that it be QUIET) with another cobbled together one after 21 weeks.
I had a P4 chip in the last one, the replacement has an AMD Duron 1.2Ghz installed (with 1 Gig RAM & LOUD). It's about 2001 vintages I think.
How do the P4 & the Duron 1.2 compare in terms of speed, & use for recording audio? If it doesn't come up to P4 specs - which I doubt given the year, what P would it be a close match to?
Thanks in anticipation.
I want to have some info up my sleeve before I confront him, (that's if I need to).

Pentium and Duron are different animals.
Budget Duron was AMD's version of the chopped up Pentium, the budget Celeron.:D..(not saying it was bad, just you got what you paid for).
You are right in saying that the Duron's specs won't come up to the P4's specs, in many respects.
Whick P4 px do you have? (there are many types!)
Anyways, I'm not too sure if actual clock speed should be the only 'determining factor' when using in Audio work of any kind.

As for quietness?.....mmmmmmmmmm?...that's probably more of a PC case power supply/CPU cooling fan thang.

Thanks Superspit,
Yeah - the noise it not a chip issue more a power/fan/NDD matter but at 52 - 60 dBs from 75cm away at seated head hight with the tower 3 cm off the floor - noise is a big issue. I can't recall the P4 specs - I don't have the machine anymore. I could manage smaller projects with fewer VSTs if the machine were quieter.
