Sorry I'm very new at computer recording. My soundcard which was a soundblaster, is broken or something...anyways it won't work and now I know it's a piece of crap anyways. I'm in the market for a new soundcard. I read all the past threads and it made me even more confused, so I though I would just ask my own question.

I need to know what the best option for a soundcard would be for my given situation. I want to be able to plug my mixer into it which is a Behringer something. I need the Phantom power supply and I like having the effects at my finger tips frommy mixer. But this is where I get confused. Is it better just to get a good soundcard or a new sound card and interface. My understanding if i get them together I won't have to hook up anything in the back expect the cable that goes from the sc to the interface.. and where does digital quality come in? I read somewhere that the Echo Gina might be right. I get really lost in the computer talk and what it all means. I hope this gets easier as I go. Any help will be greatfully apreciated!!! Thanks

Told you I was lost, so what's the the thing called that connects to the sound card by the cable, wher you plug in your instruments or mixer? Sorry and Thanks.

Ok, i think your meaning a breakout box. This allows you to plug your mixer in your case directly into your soundcard alot easier. Whats your budget?

I would say $500 to $700, more if really needed but cheaper would be nice, but I really want something that sounds good and it worth the money I pay for it.

Is there anything with less inputs? I only need like one or two. I will be using a mixer or is that many pretty standard?

Its pretty standard where a mixer is involved, i wouldnt really see much use in using a mixer for just 2 inputs, although you can do it. I have the 1010 and i only record 2-3 at a time at the most. i just have it to be safe incase i ever need to record a full band or anything, but thats me. I would have a check around and find out what you need before you start to splash the cash :)

It can be put on a rack if you want, doesnt mean it has to. its a bonus feature, mine sits nicely on my desk next to my desk. (i assume were talking about the 1010 here...)

If you dont like the one i showed up there, how about looking into a USB or a firewire soundcard? No PCI card to fit then?

I own an emu-0404. It works great. It has two analog inputs and some other digital inputs. It will run you about $100 or less. However its not easy to set up at first. are you talking about what recording program to use when you mention interface?
