Problems with recording

Alright when i go to record a track it comes out fine and dandy. YET as soon as i lay down another track under it, for some reason it picks up the first track playing. therefore when i play both tracks together i get this echo/reverb effect from the first track.

i tried to stop this buy muting the first track and using the metronome for timing when recording the second track, but then again it picks up the metronome and adds that in the recording. why is it doing this? and no i'm not using my speakers. I have headphones on.

any other reason why it's picking up the first track?
thanks

There is a setting on your soundcard that says something to the effect of "record what you hear" , you will want to turn that feature off.

also, read the sticky at the top of this forum called "track one records onto track 2"...in case the first advice doesn't get it.

yeah actually i got it to work perfectly.
all i had to do was go into the recording settings on my volume control and click on everything and click off wave,

thanks for the hand!
