Greetings,

I have been recording for about a year now and there are still some "bugs" to my technique that I need to be gone. First of all, let me give you a description of my set up. (its really primative, so please don't laugh.)

I am using a 4 channel PA mixer to run all of my mics into.
I am using 2 cassette decks for over-dubbing.
I have been doing each song "track-by-track" with this method:

I first record the drum track onto one cassette. Then I run the cassette deck through the mixer into another cassette deck while my bassist applies the bass track. After he's done, I apply the same process and record the guitar track. (Keep in mind that the guitar and bass sometimes need two tracks.) Last but not least, I record the vocals (these also require two tracks). When its all done, I run the completed cassette through an equalizer to make sure that everything is sounding okay.

The problem is that when I listen to the finished product, The tape sounds "staticy" and "hissy". I only use new cassette tapes and I don't know what's going on! Somewhere in between all of the recording, everything gets warped!

Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
