Problems with cdrw

I just finished setting up a new DAW (Athlon 2200, win98se). When I try to copy backed up audio files from cd to the hard drive, computer freezes up at 'Preparing to Copy'. The cd drive is a brand new Plextor. Any ideas?
 
Make sure the burner is not on an integrated 3rd party ATA controller. Put it on the normal VIA (or whatever) controller.

Also, make sure your computer is really locking up. The "preparing to copy" process can take 15 minutes if you're copying an entire cd with a burner (which always read slow).
