Problem's recording in stereo

I am using Cubase LE4 with a Tascam 144. When I record my Kurzweil PC88 onto an audio stereo track, it will not playback in stereo. Any suggestions?

does it show as a stereo input in the devices menu??? have to admit most of the time i prefer to record it as a mono track and then pan it in the mix...
 
Does the recorded track look like a stereo track? Meaning, two waveforms on one track? If so, are the two sides panned hard left and right?
 
Are you recording a single source (eg a guitar - only 1 mono output in most cases) into a stereo track? Is the sound only on 1 side? If so, you probably don't want to record it to a stereo track.

I clicked on "devices" but don't know where to go from there. ?

I haven't been able to record as mono....

I am pretty clueless. I'm a great musician, but feel pretty stupid when it comes to this stuff.

Look at track 1. That has two waveforms and is a stereo track. Tracks 2 and 3 are mono tracks with a single waveform.

Do you mean it all comes out 1 speaker, or does the mix just sound mono out of both of the speakers?

If you record 1 input onto a mono track and pan it to the center, it will come out both speakers.
 
Waffleness,

What I meant was that I'm only getting sound through one "ear" on my headphones. I don't know if its effecting the placyback through my amp, although the sound quality is rather poor (and I don't think my amp is entirely to blame for that).

In any case, the tracks are panned to he center. Any other suggestions?
 
Is the audio you get through that 1 ear stereo or mono?

For example, are both L and R signals being sent to 1 ear? or is it, for instance, only the left channel that works?

Also - if you are only recording 1 input (i.e. a microphone) onto a stereo track, it will only record on the left channel. To record 1 INPUT and make it come out of BOTH channels (L and R) you need to record it into a MONO track.

To test this, I would import a MONO audio track (for example, just import an mp3 or something).

Start with the track panned centre. Drag the pan all the way hard left. If you can still hear it, then drag it all the way hard right.

If, in both cases (left and right) the sound still comes out of 1 speaker/earphone, then you have somehow set your software to output both Left and Right channels down the same output.

If, when you change the pan, you only hear the audio at 1 point (for example, only when it is centred or panned left) then you have your system set up better. Its just a downstream problem with your headphones or output.

Understand? Also, would you check for me that you are not recording your audio onto a stereo track? You should have 1 input recording onto 1 mono track.

The 1/16" cable I would suspect is a mono cable which you are sending to a stereo track. If you record what is effectively a mono source (from the cable) to a stereo track, it'll only come out one ear. If the kurzwiel has a stereo output (meaning it has a left and a right out) you'll need to run a stereo cable from it into cubase. Usually that will mean that you'll use 2 inputs in your interface, one for left, one for right. When sending that to the stereo track, you'd assign one input to the left channel on the stereo track in Cubase, and one to the right. Alternatively you could just use 2 mono tracks to give yourself more versatility.

If your kurzwiel doesn't have a left and a right output, or even a stereo output....In other words if it is just a mono single channel, single source job, you'll want to send it to a mono track.
 
Do you only use headphones? Or do you also have a set of computer speakers? If you have computer speakers, does the sound come out of both speakers? Also, If you don't have the 1/8" plug all of the way in, it will only playback from one side.
