When I try to open FL Studio while Ableton Live is open I don't get what I expect. Instead, I get a small box-thing appear called 'FL STudio Rewire'. The program does not load up with my personal options and the pattern sequencer is full of instruments & VSTs I never intended to load. When I try to make changes to the INPUT on the mixer strip so that Edison can record, the cursor changes to a question mark and when I try to click it, the helpfile pops up!

Firstly, I know little to nothing about Rewire, although I've heard of it. I would like to open FL Studio alongside Ableton so I can route out of Ableton, into my Behringer mixer and back into FL so I can record from it.

I've tried recording into Wavlab & Audacity but getting it down onto two channels isn't easy. I'm not happy recording in Ableton Live and it won't allow me to save anything anyway, because it's a demo. I'm having other troubles with Wavelab Lite as well. It won't even open normal .WAV files.

I want to record in FL because I'm familiar with the Edison recorder but I'm finding it rather fiddly to trigger off samples in FL, in the way I want to. I'm liking the control I get with Ableton so I was hoping to get the best of both worlds, from two seperate programs. Ah, meh...!

I've tried opening FL Studio first, then Ableton - but then Ableton is silent, with no sound going through into my E=MU card's DSP Patchmix at all.

When I open Ableton first and then open FL, Ableton plays - but I get this 'rewire' version of FL, which I haven't learned about properly yet.

All in all, feeling a bit stuck.

If this isn't going to work with these applications, does anyone have any recommendations for software that does what I want in one application?

Would you be thinking some kind of DJing software, instead of the standard DAW arranger?

Thanks for reading. Hope you can understand what I'm up to.
