so I've set up 703 in my closet. There are a few small spaces that are "leaks" into my room. I haven't covered them yet, it's a little harder than you'd expect in my case. Just wondering if that's why it doesn't seem like I'm getting any deadening results, leaks into another room will make the treated closet sound so sucky, right?

Leaks from what? Your monitors? Most likely, the room you MONITOR in is the culpret. Remember, your ears hear the room you monitor IN. If the acoustics of the monitoring space are "sucky", your recording will sound sucky. But there could be more than one problem. Your mic, your speakers, your speaker placement...all have a bearing. First, your monitoring space has to tell you the truth. Only then can you believe what you hear.

I almost forgot. Are you talking about the sound on the recording playing back on your monitors, or monitoring LIVE through headphones?

The original post was impossible to comprehend.
I gave Rick a point for even trying.... ;)
