Problem with playback

Hey all,
My name is Jay and I am definitely a noob. I'll get right to the point. I purchased an HP zd8000 series notebook from CompUSA and the Tascam US-122 from a local music store. I went with these units on the salesmen's recommendations. I was looking for portable and not too expensive. Anyway, being new to recording, I'm having troubles with some settings with the laptop and the 122. I was able to record and work my way through Cubase LE and I'm able to track guitar. The problem is when I play it back, it sounds like there are gliches in the audio. Almost like it happened when it was recorded. It's like there are bits of data missing. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't have access to much because I am in the military and currently on deployment several thousand miles from home. Do you think it would be possible to get a sample up on the net so we can have a listen? There are so many types of problems in sound, would be quite hard to determine it without listening..

What is the spec of your computer? Doubt it very much but if it cant handle whats being thrown at it, theres always a possibility it could be glitching under the lack of power.You say youve just purchsaed it though so i doubt its that at all.

Have you tried using a different cable from your guitar to your tascam?

That's all i can really think of.. like i said, would be good if you could get a recording up on the net.

That sounds like a latency problem at record-trime and/or playback-time. How much RAM does the laptop have?
 
Thansk for the replies. As far as the specs for the laptop go, I believe it's an HP zd8230. It has a 100gig hard drive, 1 gig of RAM and the processor speed is 6.3(something). I have to apologize because I don't know much about computers but that's what I remember the salesman pitching to me. He said it was the best one they had and it would suffice for recording. Anyway, I am unable to put a sound clip up at this time due to the bandwidth that we have while we're underway. The guitar cable is a brand new Spectraflex and I've also used it into an amp with no problems so I don't believe it to be bad. Touching on the latency topic. Any idea what I should do with the latency settings and what is latency? I saw that in some of the options for the 122. Also, what about buffering? I've seen lots of variables to play with and I don't want to tweak too much without an understanding of what I am adjusting. Also, is there anything I should look at in general, as fas as the laptop is concerned? Maybe the USB settings that I'm interfacing into? I only know enough to be very dangerous to my equipment!! Well the laptop seems more than high enough in terms of power to be able to record, so we can wipe that out of the equation.

Eddie mentioned latency which could be it, although i dont think it would cause this much of a problem.. Latency is basically the time it takes for the audio to be converted and processed by your computer. USB is the slowest out of the main methods out there, but i'm sure that wouldn't affect your recordings as much as that..

I'm really sorry, i dont really have a clue what it could be. Hopefully someone on here will have an idea for you.
