Problem with .pdfs

For about two weeks now, if I am looking at a site and there is a .pdf document in it and I click on it it does not open but goes straight to my 'Downloads' folder. Consequently this is getting stuffed and I keep having to clean it out. I want to keep SOME .pdf file of course but mostly just have a look at them. Did not used to be this way.

I am on a W10 laptop internet from BT and Firefox. I suspect BT are the root of the issue since they have "changed things" AGAIN! recently.

Whenever I double click a pdf file, it should open in firefox. I can do it with Google Chrome but not Firefox. Any help would be appreciated.

I use Firefox. All my pdf's both download and open up.

I use a Linux OS and Firefox. Click on a pdf and it opens but wont download unless I tell it to.
