Hey everyone, thanks for taking the time to read this.

I recently purchased a:

Korg Kontrol49
E-MU 1820M Audio System
Sony MDR-V600s

I'm running a Pentium 4, 2.8Hz processor.

Following the instructions, I put the sister card of the E-MU into my computer and started up the comp.

My computer recognized the card, asked if I wanted to install the drivers and I clicked cancel. Put in the E-MU Digital Audio System Software/Driver Installation CD-ROM, installed the drivers and restarted my computer when prompted.

Then I plugged in the Audio Dock that was included.

One end is plugged into the 'CARD' part and the other is plugged into the PCI card labeled "EXTERNAL"

After that was all done, I plugged in my Korg Controller to my power bar.

And hooked up the MIDI cables to the E-MU, E-MU in to Korg out, E-MU out to Korg in.

However, on the Korg there is an Out A and an Out B. I chose Out A, but I'm not 100% if that is correct. Also the E-MU has a MIDI 1 and MIDI 2. I chose MIDI 1 at the front.

So after that I plugged in my Sony MDRs into the Headphone jack and turned up the volume.

To my surprise, I hear nothing.

The E-MU CD had a PatchMix DSP on it and I noticed that when playing a sound, the levels responded, but I couldn't hear anything.

Now I understand this is an insanely newbie question, but any help would be great. This is my first time putting something together, I usually work at stations already made.

No it's not.

That PatchMix thing was the subject of a long article in the November issue of the British mag Sound on Sound. It may be still on a newstand near you and you should try to get your hands on a copy because the online version is behind a 'subscribers only' wall.

The issue in question has a $90,000 Solid State Logic mixing board on the cover with a caption saying 'An SSL for the home studio'.

It's still a fine mag though.

What I can tell you in general is that if the levels are responding you must be close and it's probably just a matter of flipping the right switch. You have the midi part set up correctly - it's just a matter of getting sound out of the Emu card, so concentrate your efforts on that.

Try updating Patchmix and your drivers at www.emu.com.

They just released a update that deals with the problem of seeing the meters moving but no sound coming out.

From emu.com:
Fixed bug where PatchMix would sometimes show meter activity but no sound would be heard
