Whenever I try to record with sonar producer, I am not able to control the levers of the input from a digital point of view. I have my console hookup to the 8 analog ins and in the control panel, when I put the faders to -144, the sound will be comming out in sonar. This means that I have to diminish the gain at the preamp on my console.

is there anyway I could control the gain of my inputs in the digital world?

I am using sonar with the asio drivers.

Thx

OK, I have the Delta 44, and N-Track, but I'm assuming my thoughts would still be the same in your situation -
You want to control the level going to your soundcard from your preamp gain, not in the card. The only level thing to set in your card is the input for either -10 or +4 (if there's a choice). You pretty much want the card's input to take whatever it is given "as-is", if it's coming in too loud, just turn down the gain on your pre.

Ah, yup, that would be the case. You want to control the signal strength BEFORE it is digitized.

Thx for the replies guys, but I remember correctly that when I was using my soundblaster card before, I would try to record a kick drum and it would always cause distortion in the digital world (the meters in sonar), the analog wouldn't be clipping.

I wanted to control the gain of the inputs in digital world because my bassdrum mic keeps clipping when the gain is at minimum on my console.

thx
