so I was working with my MOTU 828mkII on the computer that I'm using at this moment to type this. At that point I was just recording single tracks with Sound Forge. However, I got a copy of Nuendo from my friend who upgraded to Cubase and now I'm trying to use that on my other computer (because that one has more space and is what I want to be the center of my studio). Now, I know my computer sees the MOTU.. because I can go into Windows Sound Recorder and record through it, but when I try to test my levels in Nuendo it doesn't seem to affect anything. The bars don't hop. I'm running Nuendo 1.5.2. Any suggestions for things to check would be nice.

You need to go into the device setup menu and setup the device (the soundcard) Your buddy should have given you the manuals too.

What version of Nuendo? Nuendo 1 does it completely different than 2.

he didn't provide any manuals dealing with Nuendo... and as I stated above, it's Nuendo 1.5.2. I don't exactly get what you mean (Farview) by "setup the device (the soundcard)".. the Motu is the device, the soundcard doesn't matter in this case. The computer sees that the Motu is connected and can read it's levels, but Nuendo can't. So just imagine going into a program and not being able to record anything from the device.. you can set up that you want to record from that particular device... but I'm just really confused with this Nuendo crap. I like that it's got built in effects and it's multitrack (and it's free from my friend :D ) but I'm not a fan of all this setup crap.

Go into nuendo, click on devices, when the menu drops down, select device setup. On the left you must select vst multitrack, on the right hit control panel. when that thing pops up, hit advanced options. now you can turn on the ins and outs.
The computer sees the motu, but you need to tell nuendo that you want to use it.
Get those manuals from your friend, the quick start guide is 140 pages and the operation manual is 520 pages long. You won't be able to feel your way through this.

Along with Farview's directions, Prior to clicking control panel you will want to select the MOTU Firewire driver at the scroll box for ASIO Driver.

I would love to get the manuals from him, unfortunately... he sold everything he owns and moved to Turkey... I don't think I'm getting those manuals... however, I'll look around online to see if they're somewhere that I can download... if anyone else can find them then I'd be more than happy if you'd post where on here. Thanks for the help.

Does that version of Nuendo not have any Help Files?
Most of what is printed in the manuals can normally be found throughout the help files.

They have help files... but the Steinberg website also has the manuals... and I think I'm going to go ahead and pay the $300 or $400 to upgrade to version 2.
