Problem rendering to mp3

I normally only use WAV. However to send music via email I need mp3. When I try to render to mp3, Reaper tells me I need to download LAME. I've done this and downloaded libmp3lame-3.99.5x64 and lamedll-MOD3.99.5 but Reaper still wont render. What is wrong? BTW I'm in England.

A lot have problems with this?
It varies where you place Lame (and the version of course?,,If you're using 64bit Reaper make sure you use 64bit Lame!,,it's surprising the number that get this wrong!) I put it
in the 'User Plugins Folder' & never have any probs!

By the way if you want to send wav files (My email has small max file size?) I use 'We Transfer' it's free & easy to use!.

I haven't yet managed to get mp3 going in Reaper, but after your advice I got it to work in Audacity, so I was able to convert the file in Audacity.
