Hello,

I have downloaded the demo of Cool Edit Pro and am having a hard time with the getting a signal into the computer.

My setup:

900mhz P3 HP with stock soundcard (not for long)

I am just trying something simple to see how it all works. I have a Synth that Im running the output to the input of the computer.
The settings are all on for the internal soundcard for playback and recording. I hit the record button i get nothing. I know i have a good connection because im getting sound out of the Outs on the computer.

Thanks for any help. And if I am lacking on details let me know.

John

maybe a very stupiud question but is your track record ready enabled?

Did you select the right input for recording?

On the left side of the screen on track 1, I selected the little red "R" which is record. As far as selecting the right input I only have one and thats the audio In on the stock computer. Where do I go to check that its selected in CEP?

Thanks

Yup I went there and have the computers soundcard selected for recording and playback. Is there anything else I may be missing?

I also made sure that the line in on the windows mixer was unmuted.

Man this is frustrating. I dont understand what the problem could be?

I have sound going into the Input on the card and hear sound coming out. Its like Cool Edit isnt picking it up somehow.

Okay, I know squat about synths and MIDI, but here's what I dredged up from the Cool Help:

"To set up MIDI and Wave devices
Select Options > Device Properties to bring up the Device Properties window. Using the appropriate tabbed windows, set MIDI In to the channel to be used for either triggering (commonly YourDevice: In 1), or for SMPTE sync (commonly YourDevice: Sync), and MIDI Out to the synthesizer channel you would like to use for the Music option, if any. The MIDI out that you select here is also the default MIDI device for MIDI playback in the Multitrack View (although you can change that for each individual MIDI file)

Set both Wave In and Wave Out to the sound card inputs and outputs you would like to use for your default settings. Make sure that for the devices you want to use for Wave In and Out in Cool Edit Pro’s Edit View, you check the “Use this device in Edit View” box."

Any good? You *are* using Cool 2.0, right?

I GOT IT!

I am an idiot or just ignorant. I have been doing external recording.

The recorder line-in input wasnt selected. I thought it was like the playback screen where you have to check it to mute it. But the recorder is the opposite. It works great now.

Sorry, and thanks for you help!

:)

The problem's usually something obvious. Not always, but usually.

YEah, A lot of times it seems easy to overcomplicate things. But Im glad it works. Anxious to see how well CEP does with my gear.
