Problem recording MIDI - out of sync

I am tearing my hair out over a problem recording the audio version of a MIDI drum track.

Here's the thing: it sounds great when I am just playing back, but when I go to record, the first few minutes are fine, but then the audio slowly drifts out of sync. For example, drum beats land properly on beat one early in the recording, but by the end of the song, drum beats are no longer on beat one. It's as if the audio is recording at a completely different tempo.

I've tried a zillion combinations of latency, buffer sizes, etc, and I cannot figure the f***ing thing out. Help!

My setup: Sonar 8, Focusrite Saffire Pro 24, Alesis QS8.

Configure the outboard MIDI device to transmit MIDI sync messages.

In Sonar, open the "Options> Project" tab and then open the "Clock" tab.

Click the box next to MIDI sync and click OK to close the box.

This sets up your hardware device as the master controller, so you start and stop Sonar using the controls of your outboard device.

When you arm a track for recording in Sonar, a little box will appear saying "Waiting for MIDI sync". When you see that hit the record command on your hardware and everything should play in sync. When you're done, hit stop on the drum machine.

Hope this helps.
