So I have a M-Audio Fast Track Mkii. Now when I try to record electric guitar via the instrument input into garageband, garageband doesn't seem to pick it up. I have the knob turned all the way up, I set the input as my interface in both my system preferences and garageband preferences and yet when I try to record electric guitar it doesnt pick it up. I'd also like to add that when I direct monitor it I can hear the guitar with my headphones but like I said, when it comes to recording a track on garageband nothing comes up. Can somebody please help me out here? Btw im a newbie at this so yeah lol

Have you created a track to record and and armed it for recording?

Well I don't see that button in my GarageBand..oh wait I had to click enable multitrack recording lol.. but that still doesnt solve my problem :(

Choose mono track and to record the right channel, not the left.

1. New project in Garageband
2. Create new track (Real instrument)
3. Set the input (just in case you can try both)
4. Arm the track for recording
5. Press record

If that does not work you've got issue somewhere else than GB.

Did that, doesnt work :( do you think its my interface?

You have pressed the guitar/line input switch on the back of the interface?

There's no switch like that on the back of my interface. The only switch on the back of the interface is for turning on phantom power.

If you can hear the guitar with direct monitor button, the problem definitely isn't with the interface.

Maybe update the driver? I don't even see it listed on the M-Audio site tho....

Sounds like there is still a setting wrong in Garageband.

Can you select the internal card in your computer, and get input from the mic input? That would rule out a setup issue within Garageband, and possibly tell you the interface connection is bad somehow.

yeah I get input when I select the built in mic input just fine.

Do you have another USB cable? Could be as simple as that....

Hell, a piece of pocket poop (lint) can stop a flash drive from working. :)

No I don't have another USB cable that fits my interface..

I would get one of those before taking a hammer to your interface. :)
