Okay, i don't work with midi a lot in Sonar so i'm not too great with it. Basically, I want to print off sheet music of a bass part for my bass player. I have the bass parts sequenced in Reason. So what I'm trying to do is make a midi file of the bass part from Reason, then open that up in Sonar and print off the sheets. For some reason, when I open up the midi in Sonar its all wrong. This is wierd because it plays fine in winamp, but in Sonar the timing is way off and parts are overlapping.

Any tips??

Looks like a Channel problem, just save your midi from reason , throw it in sonar (make sure it is a .mid file) and before you play check all the channels and set them all to GM. See if it works.

Are you saving to a Type 0 or Type 1 MIDI file? (If the notes have all been collapsed to one track, that's a Type 0 file.)

i don't know what i'm saving it as... reason only has an "export midi" command. so what i do is delete all the other sequencer tracks and export only the bass track. but like it ends up with all the notes mashed together even though its just one track.

i suppose i could just pick it all apart and put it back in place... but getting it to work properly would be good too. haha.

Mojew,

When you say mashed together, do you mean that all the notes keep sustaining until you've got dozens of sounds playing together? Just curious...my stepdad has the same problem importing in cakewalk and I've wondered what caused it. He lives in a different city and I haven't been able to help him.

no. all the note lengths are correct, but it puts different parts of the song on top of each other instead of spacing them properly. I'm probably not explaining this very well...

On top as in all on one track, or on top as in all clustered towards the beginning of the sequence (all starting at about the same time, in other words)?

yeah! all starting at the same time.

its supposed to be all in one track, but all the parts start playing on top of each other. like it ran out of room so it just starting putting parts in one place. which is wierd, because its all just from one sequencer track in reason.

When I want to do an extract part of a midi file, I use ENCORE 4.5 but you got SONAR so what you can do is when you open your midi file in SONAR select the track which corresponds to the Bass track. I suggest you quantize it. then you click on the staff button and that should do the job.

In REASON make sure you only have the bass... make a backup, delete all other tracks and save the midi.

Also... did you record the bass in time? (Follow the click?)
