i have been playing guitar without a strap so i have been playing sitting down i have got good i mean i suprise my self i think i have learned alot on it, but now i have a strap so now i stand up playing, but i cant play as good as i do sitting down, so im thinking what the hell im not as good standing up how am i going to jam standing up when all my friends here me play bad ass sitting down?

Practice standing up.

Don't hang your guitar too low. It might look cool, but you can't play it that way.

whew! That's one loooooong sentence you got there...

You can try playing while standing more so you get used to it. Adjust your strap if you have to, you may have the guitar hanging too low. It may not look as "cool" as a really low slung guitar, but do what you gotta do.

Or when you jam with your friends, grab a chair or sit on your amp.

You gotta practise while standing, like everyone said so far. If you value your axe get a good set of snap locks also. I dropped a SG one time just because the strap slipped off.

I can't really tell you much other than to practice more standing up. Remember that in a live setting you will be playing standing up around 95% of the time.. adjust your habits accordingly, proficiency will come with time.

Oh, and get a comfortable, adjustable strap, and think about investing in some straplocks to go along with it. Don't play too low or too high.. whatever's easiest on your back/arms/hands.

Although sitting on the amp is pretty cool as well. :D

It's all in your head. When I was younger I took guitar lessons an hour twice a week. I practiced an hour each day. All that was done sitting down. After about 3 years I joined a band. I played the same way sitting or standing.
I am not trying to be a wise ass. Just get into the music and you won't be thinking about if your standing or sitting.

Damn, here is a "sore" subject! :D

Well, if it is in his head, as has been suggested, it was in my head for a long time too. I became the sedate bedroom player, never played standing up, then started to jam with a band again...WTF happened?!?

You gotta practice standing... or at least it worked for me...

I can imagine an SG plummeting pretty quickly, but I've become a ninja master of "catching the falling guitar in mid-air", but my guitars are comparitively light compared to an SG. I've never had the experience with my Epi, so I do not know if my ninja skills would prevail
