Hee! :D

Cool. Honestly, they sounded as good as usual. Did you find the parallel compression made a difference?

We seem to have trouble getting a trashy sound. I once went for that and ended up with my best drum track. :D

Lol!

Um, I dunno about parallel compression. It did make a difference, but not much. And I'm not sure if it's better or worse. I need to try it with my usual techniques. I can't make an honest assessment since I did everything else differently too. Know what I mean? I'll try it again with my usual setup next time. I also need new tom heads. They're starting to die. I'm very disappointed in the tom sounds I got. But fuck it. At least my toms sound trashy. :D

Okay folks, there's an instrumental version in the first post if you wanna hear it that way.

I've listened to both - vocal then instrumental.
If I'd not heard the vocal I think I'd have been 100% happy with the intsro but having heard a voice on top I was listening for that melody on the instro too - but from twanging axe.
I quite like your usual bass sound on this - experiment with new depunkified EQing by all means but on here it sound cool as is.
I LOVED the change in the middle.
Lyrically the puns & buns were equally amusing.
It is what it is: surf punk punning fun for anal repetitives.

Can't comment critically as I've perforated one ear drum but from a monaural perspective it all sounds fab. Love all the guitar tones and breakdown at 1.00. Actually reminds me a bit of the Munsters theme with the double snare hits and the surf guitar

Yeah I can. Lol. I always have trouble with the low end on the surfy tunes. I think the problem is that i usually use my Greg-punk bass tone. I need to use a more natural vintage style bass tone.

Actually, there's plenty of bass for me - it was just my pathetic butt joke that misfired. :D

Okay thanks Ray. I can't decide on which version I like better. I like the instrumental version, but I think the vocal version is so retarded that it genuinely makes me chuckle a little to listen to it. I'm like "what a stupid song".....and that's just how I like it. :D

Cool, thanks dude. :)

Ahh. Lol. I did think it was a little light in the bottom. I beefed it a touch in the instrumental version.

I often get misfiring butt problems.

It's really only a problem for other people. :D

Sounds pretty good.

I do agree that the lyrics get a bit repetitive by the end. At least it's not the original version then.

It seems a lot more splashy than your earlier mixes. i.e. something's taking up more space in the mix than normal without increasing the clarity of any of the voices. Maybe it's the far mic'd drums or the high number of crashes or something?

lol funny song Greg.
sounds good. I don't like how the guitars are a tad sharp in the high mids but apart from that good work.

Really enjoyed listening to that, brought a huge smile to my face :D

now it needs a cartoon creating around it (like crash canyon) would be a brilliant opener :)

more drums !!! (louder!)

i really dig the balance of the mix. the guitars have a lot of depth. that snare is bangin! thank you, i have very much enjoyed this piece of music. the lyrics crack me up. What mic/pre did you use for the vocals? Sounds really smooth. I agree the vocals should come up a tad if you were to pass through it again.

The instrumental is perfect...I think its my favourite tune of yours. I love surf stuff and that whole sixties instrumental vibe and this would not be out of place amongst them all...man you should do an album of this stuff, its excellent :)

It's a damn good thing you make it obvious that you know your shit cold -- because your lyrical content can go "slightly" over the top. No nits -- but I'm listening on cans. :)

Thanks dude. It's probably all the delays and reverbs going off all over the place.

Thanks. Yeah I'm on the fence with the guitars myself. They seem a little bright on my monitors, but not painfully so, so I haven't done anything with them.

Thanks. Nothing fancy with the mic or vocal tracks. I use an AT2020 and the stock pre's in the Firepod.

Awesome, thanks man. Yeah I've been planning on a surf album for a long time. I just haven't written the songs in bunches. I just come up with one every couple of months.

Thanks dude. Slightly over the top? Hmmm, I need to try harder. I want full-bore over the top. :D

I just listened to the instrurectal version and it really sounds killer.

I haven't read through any comments yet (jeez, 4 freakin's pages already :) ?) but I was listening for obvious differences with the drums since you mentioned them.

They maybe sound like there's more room sound, or the OHs are farther away, or there's more verb than you usually use....uh, something like that anyway! They sound great for this tune and really not all that different to me I guess :o.

The playing is tight and the mix sounds well balanced. I'm going to give the one with vocals a try, although they hardly seem necessary. I am curious though to once again hear you reveal your innermost thoughts in song.

...ah yes...I wept!

Lol. Uranus is a deep subject. I had to probe it. :D

Yes to all of your drum comments. It's a little bit of all that. I went into a little more detail earlier in the thread. Thanks for checking it out heat. :)
