This started out as an instrumental then I decided to put words to it. Nothing really came to mind so I literally made it up as I went along. :laughings:

I did some things differently with the drums and I don't know if I like it or not. Any mix comments are welcome and appreciated. Enjoy if you can. :guitar: :D

Probe to Uranus

Instrurectal version

Lyrics, if you can even call them that. :laughings:

I'm gonna probe to Uranus
Probe to Uranus
Probe to Uranus
Probe to Uranus
Probe it's gonna make me famous
Probe it's gonna make me famous
Probe to Uranus
Probe to Uranus

Probe, probe, probe, probe, let's go!

I got my Hubble pointed at your bubble
Got my rocket pointed at your socket
Got my Hubble pointed at your bubble
Got my rocket pointed at your socket

Gonna probe, probe, probe, probe, alright!

I got my tool it's full of rocket fuel
I got my tool it's full of rocket fuel
I got my tool it's full of rocket fuel
I got my tool it's full of rocket fuel
I'm gonna blast off......

I'm gonna probe, probe, probe, probe.... let's go!

I'm the invader of your crater
Invader of your crater
Invader of your crater
Invader of your crater
Gonna probe to Uranus
Probe to Uranus
Probe to Uranus
Probe to Uranus

Probe, probe......

They just keep getting sillier! This was really good, I really liked the high lead guitar over the 'invader of your crater' bit, kinda has a demented circus feel to it. Mix sounded great on my headphones (as they always do), not sure I have the ears to help much beyond that. Do you use a whammy bar or a digitech pedal or vst?

Thanks dude. This is all organic. There's three gtr tracks all done with a Strat - two wide tracks that play the lead/melody parts and they're going through a Boss tremolo pedal into my amp, and there's one in the middle that just plays open chords that I warble with the wang bar. All guitar tracks have a hint of delay with a TC electronics Flashback Delay pedal, and I added a hint of spring reverb with a impulse reverb plug-in.

I loved the drums, I think the sounded great...the beginning is brilliant...I loved the space guitar bit as well, shouldve had more imo...Ive just been reading about Joe Meek and Telstars recording so I was ready for this

tbh I wouldve left it as an instrumental...some weird organ or early synth sounds wouldve perfected it for me....not that theyre bad, just that this has a great surf rock instrumental vibe

just imho but I think theres more weirdness to be had in this :thumbs up:

Cool dude, thanks for listening. I can put up an instrumental version. That was the original plan.

You wanna do some organ synthy weirdness on it? I don't reckon there'd be anyone better in here to do it than you. ;)

I really like this. I'm a bit jealous 'cos I want to do something surfy myself but I can't seem to get started.

I did come up with a chord progression that I liked yesterday, however, so perhaps now's the time. :D

I really liked the drums - both the sound and playing. Except the kick might be a little "thuddy."

The guitar was cool. Kind of reminded me of the B52's, at least early in the song. The guitar part that came in after that little middle break was a good touch.

It's tough to hear the lyrics. They get kind of lost.

Id ruin your genius...but Id love to play around with it if you stick the instrumental up...just got a new synth :D

Cool! It sounds like the Ventures without all the reverb. I like it!

Can you get a bit more "bottom end" on it? :D
Yeah I can. Lol. I always have trouble with the low end on the surfy tunes. I think the problem is that i usually use my Greg-punk bass tone. I need to use a more natural vintage style bass tone.

Thanks! Yeah, do it! If you need some drums, let me know. Or have your kid do it. He's way better than me anyway. :o

Thanks dude. The kick is lol-tastic. I went a little crazy with it. Partly on purprose and partly it just got away from me. I wanted it to be fat and thuddy. Maybe I went too much. The vocals might not even stay. If I do keep them, I'll bump em up a hair.

Sure thing. I'll put up the instrumental version tonight or tomorrow, and I'll send you a wav so you can have something "good" to play with.

Thanks RC. I'm surprised to see you in here. Thanks for checking it out.

You shouldn't be surprised. I listen to music here all the time. I only respond to music I like. The lyrics are a bit repetetive.;)

Listened at work today, but I can't comment on anything I hear through those speakers.

Sounds great man. I think it might be the first time I hear your drums alone, like in the intro. That kik sounds really fat with just a perfect amount of click.

Great drumming in this, especially at the end.

Lol. No kidding. My first idea was to just shout "I'm gonna probe to Uranus" literally over and over. Those were gonna be the only words. So what I ended up with is like Bob Dylan comapred to what is was gonna be. :D

Thanks a lot dude. I'll post the whole solo'd drum track if you'd like. :D

What did you do differently for the drums?

I copy/paste/pan/shifted everything.

Just kidding. :D

Well I mic'd everything further away and left the bleed in for one. I don't usually do that. I mic'd the bottom of the snare, which I didn't even use. I also parallel compressed the snare and entire kit, which I also don't usually do. I mic'd the kick from just inside the reso head, while I normally have the mic way inside. I'm not crazy about the results. I wanted trashy sounding drums, and I think I ended up with my usual sounds for the most part, just different. It's okay for a one-off job like this goofy song, but I won't be doing any of that again for my usual stuff.

Hee! :D

Cool. Honestly, they sounded as good as usual. Did you find the parallel compression made a difference?

We seem to have trouble getting a trashy sound. I once went for that and ended up with my best drum track. :D
